yeah well this issue would of been easy issue to deal with if 3cx is an opensource product, but no I even got into the database, and couldn't find anything there, I think asterisk is by far a better product if anyone is looking to do custom setup. plus the cost of having to buy windows, there is just no advantage at all, not to mention the free edition of 3cx is only allow you to do 4 sim calls.

Many of us already have Windows systems and don't want linux unless it's appliance based. 4 calls is fine for most home scenarios.

Having said that, still can't get 3CX to register for inbound calls. I'm told that should be possibe.

The fact 3CX isn't open source is a non issue. While Asterisk and 3CX are both PBX applications there are plenty of differences between the two and both offer significant pros and cons over each other. Try autoprovisioning the range of Patton ATA's with Asterisk as an example.. Both have totally different markets. Despite what many people tmay think (and I really am an Asterisk fan myself) Asterisk is not the ultimate PBX and isn't suitable for all purposes.

The fact the free edition also supports only 4 calls is also a moot point - not everybody expects software to be free as part of the overall big picture when it comes to deploying a VoIP solution for medium to large install the cost of the 3CX software only plays a minor part.

The issue is in the layers of security we use and the way the system needs to register devices, we use both Authid and user name and they are seperate , other providers should I say don't tend to take security side as serious as we do and use the same info for both(pretty bad practice really IMHO). 3cx are looking at this so hopefully you will see something from them shortly.
