Did this happen to anyone else? Yesterday morning (8 Oct) my internet went down. I checked the router and rebooted it. The DSL light did not come on which was strange. After waiting a few minutes, I rebooted again but still the same. I phoned xnet and they told me that it shows connected even after I switched the unit off. This means a jumper fault which looks like my line was used by someone else.

How is this possible? Can telecom or other tecnicians just go into their cabinets and use a circuit for someone else? After several phone calls, I was told that a telecom is booked to only fix this on the 12th - 4 days later! They tell me that there is also industrial action in West Auckland where I live by technicians.

I work from home and I am without Internet and phone. This was typed on my Blackberry. I am frustrated and wish wonder if this has happened to others and if we can do something about this.

Had this happen to a couple of customers here in Whangarei too.
Internet suddenly stopped working and have to jump through hoops with the ISPs doing the usual testing like new router etc.
Eventually fault found to be at the exchange/cabinet where a tech had just disconnected them!
It took over a week for each one to be fixed and these were both businesses!

Yeah, I signed up for fusion a couple of months back. After 1 day of it being connected, the internet went down. After 3 weeks of trying to get it to work and convincing Xnet that I had tried all the normal stuff I finally had someone come out to fix it. It turned out that the day after I was plugged in another tech had gone into the box and disconnected me. To be fair there is a good chance this had nothing to do with XNet, and the tech admitted to me that there is no difference between the jumpers used for NDSL and standard DSL, meaning that someone probably just looked at it and didnt know why it was plugged in to a line with no phone connection.

Once it was discovered it was fixed in an hour, and to be honest, I've had nothing but great service and great speeds from XNet since. They even wiped the downloading I did on that first day of connection and reset my connection to the day t was fixed.

The latest: A contractor tech came out Monday afternoon late. It turned out that my connection was moved on the patch panel. I'm not clear yet whether it was after the panel was upgraded or just like some of the previous post suggests - someone mucking around. Either way, this seems to happen more than we think. I will ask Xnet what they were told by Telecom on how this happened. Generally Xnet were very helful with this.

fixed? what speed you got? what part of West Auckland are you in?


I think my speed is the basic one.  It is the torrent plan with the 75Gb off-peak cap.  I'm supposed to get full speed or as fast as my connection can handle.  The router says 16820/894 Kbps but a speed test I just did at 5:21pm says 1384/696 Kbps.

I am in Palm Heights at the side of Henderson towards the Waitakere mountains.

omg, 16820/894 Kbps vs 1384/696 Kbps, what a difference! did you ask xnet why the real speed is far to low?
by the way, i don't think my home is far from yours. am off vintage drive that off sturges road. am using HSI ADSL 1 plan, got 1500/130 kbps, router reads 3771/165. thinking switch to the ADSL2+ fusion...
