Looking on the TCL Facebook page there was a reply to the question "When it does come out HOW QUICK to install and how many will get one !!"

The reply from TelstraClear is;
"Looking to have capacity to do about 2,000 a month but that can be scaled up or down."

To me, 2000 a month does not seem many so I have asked the same question again, what are the chances of getting it installed before the world cup?

Considering the earlier note that the Wellington box broke down and they hope to have it replaced by the end of this week (9 days) suggests that there are little to none in the country.

Imagine they released the box today (we can dream)! They would only get 3000-4000 in before the world cup in June. How many pre-registered? If they are given first refusal and given a week or two to decide before allowing the general public to get their hands on it, it's unlikely that they are going to start until mid May (dreaming that the box is available today) - remove duds, problem installations, technical updates (rolling out to the mass users is much different to testing in-house) the actual figure is probably going to be 1500 to 2000.

Perhaps we need to be asking whether we are likely to get it installed before the Rugby world cup!

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Well looking at the Vodafone site it appears that you can sign up for their Ultimate package and get phone, broadband, and a MySKYHDi for $100/month.

I'm wondering whether there is any point waiting for TCL to deliver. I've been a customer since Saturn first made it to the Hutt Valley, but there seems to very little reason to have any brand loyality.

Just rang the TCL retail store and they actually have the Home Media PVR in store, and it's working! I'll pop in tomorrow to have a look, but they are open until 8pm tonight if anyone wants to see it.

The guy in the store didn't really know when it would be ready for installation, but he's under the impression that it will be this month.

Someone better rush one of these down to them - or at least give them this link & suggest they buy one.

Hi all

I have just been back to the TCL store in Wellington and the PVR there is working now.

It looked pretty impressive.

There was a tech and marketing person there and they said it was still in it Alpha state of testing, with the beta stage still to come.

They made no commitment to a firm date for release.

Telstra will be sending out invites for people to come and have a look at it this week.

How many weeks to the World Cup?

First match on 12th June, something tells me it's more likely going to be ready by the Rugby World Cup

Yes indeed. Glaciers and Continental drift move faster than TCL.

What's the point reviewing something that is in alpha test?  Why is it even in the shop?  TCL should have kept quiet until they were actually ready to release a product - no adverts, no mail-outs and no 'register your interest' campaign.  Now they are having to deal with a social media backlash - incompetence if you ask me!

Apple have sold 1m+ iPad units in less than a month - all that design, testing and manufacturing happened in the quiet - they launch with a near perfect unit - I'm not an iFanboi, but you have to congratulate them for a job well done.  TCL are showing us they have little to no real R&D, rubbish PR and that they don't care we get to hear about every delay in bringing the product to market.

Did Sky have the same problems - possibly - but did we hear about them?  Not that I remember.  Yes it's better to get the product right rather than releasing a product that keeps breaking down or needs to be patched weekly - but this is pointless and not helping their reputation.

I'd be happy with a unit in alpha right now... it would be better than the unit I dont have.
