I recently had a phone stolen, I then contacted VF and the Police to have it blacklisted.

My question is.. Is the handset only blacklisted on the VF network? If the slimey prick that stole my phone put a 2D SIM into it would he be back in business?

If Voda blacklisted the IMEI then no sim will work in it... Someone else may clarify this.

johnr would be the man to confirm how good the blacklisting is. I know that a phone from the UK was ok on 2 degrees when we tried it, but that was not roaming onto VF. Didnt have a VF sim to try that out.

VFNZ and 2D do not share EIR info at this stage

Not even sure if 2D have a EIR for BL

Hi Ham, yes unfortunately the phone will continue to work with 2D and XT SIM’s as the IMEI is the unique Device ID and not related to the SIM.

The Device is black listed in the VF EIR (Equipment Identity Register), not sure about 2D but TNZ has its own separate EIR which won’t have the IMEI listed so if an XT SIM was loaded it would connect and work as normal.

In the future I hope TNZ aims to link / share EIR’s with VF, 2D, plus the worldwide Central EIR to ensure any device stolen on any network will not work.

Agreed, at the moment none of the Telco's share locked out IMEI's whish they would, I know that if it is locked on telecom all they have to do is insert VF sim and they are away. I see that a lot of phones now have remote lock, you send it a text with a security phrase and it locks phone, sim and memory card. your personal security code is required to unlock it and the only way around it is the maunfacturer to reset the lock code. I have set this up on my phone as well as a few friends.

I just lost/had stolen my N95, I have submitted a request to 2D, Vodafone and Telecom as none of them share the blocking information just to deny anyone from being able to use it.

I had a phone lock code on it so good luck to anyone who tries to get it going.

It didn't used to be a problem when the VF network was the only one that used SIMs, but now times have changed and it would be handy to be able to blacklist on all networks
