These notifications

Are sent at 80% and 100% of data usage (If you are on a data bundle with more than 200Mb)
Are sent at 50% and 100% data usage ( If you are on a 200Mb or less data bundle )
Are sent within 15mins to 50mins of the bundle threshold being reached. They are not real time
Apply to Data Insurance bundles.
Will be sent to the mobile device/handset that is using the data bundle.

What the Customer needs to do

The service is automatically applied to all mobile broadband data plans and customers do not have to do anything to get the service.

At long last!

A good addition would be a secondary number that the SMS can be sent to also, say the users primary phone.


Will the notification be sent out if the data session is still active and passes the threshold?

Is it possible to get the alerts sent to an e-mail address as well? Can this be added online?

A little birdie told me that new data plans were being launched in Feb, any idea of when?

what will be interesting is if they migrate their existing customers to the new plans or give the option to change for free or make them break the contract to change.

When Telecom changed the price was $5 cheaper and you got an extra 1gb of data but existing customers had to ask to be moved to the new plan. I would have thought it would have been better customer service to migtate their customers and send them a letter telling them how they were getting more for less.

OT but you asked;


The old 1GB plan on XT was $54.95, and the new 2GB plan on XT is $59.95. You can get the 2GB plan for $49.95 if you have fixed home-line and broadband with Telecom. As you can see someone who may use only 1GB and doesn't have fixed broadband with Telecom or at all, might want to stay where they are.


Telecom generally doesn't force anyone to move plans for some time after the plan is withdrawn from the market, for example, Go Large was not sold to customers from sometime in 2007, it was only completely removed and customers migrated to other plans in 2009.

Cool, so you've obviously been in touch with each existing customer to let them know their options?

Eg. a customer on the old plan had to pay $15 for an extra gb but the new plan is only $5 more expensive and includes the extra gb so it's still cheaper for anyone on the old plan and using over 1gb to be on the new one with or without xtra bb.

I understand what you are saying however the point I am making is existing customers are often overlooked when new products are released, not everyone has their ear to the ground when new plans are released.

I'll second that idea 8-).


SMS alerts are completely useless to us as our SIM cards are not in phones (they are in devices such as GPS receivers or MiFi type devices).


Alerts to an email address would be very useful for us.
