Has anyone tried a different firmware for this router as beleive or not Vodafone have disabled the virtual server through the firmware (elsewhere on the web shows a virtual server option).  Apparently Vodafone dont support port forwarding on their rourters.  This is to enable my Windows Home Server not torrents.

Under 'Basic' tab on the modem, do you see NAT option?

Under NAT, you will find virtual server. It's there on my VF MT882 modem.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks but that does not let me enter any ports

see http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Huawei/SmartAX-MT882/default.htm

On other firmware it has a left hand menu

It's under NAT. Click NAT which is under Basic tab. On the right hand side of screen, you will see 'virtual server' button. Press it and add the ports. I just took this screen shot from my MT882.

Sorted the issue and through this router in the back of the cupboard as it has Vodafone firmware that I believe locks it down.  Have gone and brought a new Linksys router one tick in the box back to have my ports open and Windows Home Server is all happy.

Huh? Not all, I use one for the office, the original firmware would only sync at ADSL1 rates so VFNZ released another, and they do support port forwarding, I have no idea where you got that bollocks from.
Have you actually asked VFNZ tech support or you just making stuff up?

Vodafone told me they don't support port forwarding and don't have modems that do port forwarding and they want refund the modem or cancel the 12 months with the free modem deal as port forwarding is not a service they support or offer.

That was what I was told and I demanded to speak to a supervisor and advised they cant help because of the above.

My linksys router has no issues and port forwards ok and still has the great download speed.

Personally I'm not worried as the original post was asking if anyone had a different firmware version as I was wanting to install with the default firmware.

Just easier to get a new modem, I new this and stupid me should have brought a new modem to start with.

Who ever told you that bollocks from VFNZ needs to be fired. Was it a CSR?

well as Billgates showed, its all right there, and I guess a few use it as its VFNZ's default modem, and I for one have had no problems port forwarding...

Either your confused about the setting or the modem model, or general user error.
As for the portforward.com thats for a ancient firmware. VNFZ certainly did not " disabled the virtual server through the firmware".

Did you follow Billgates's directions on where to find it?
