Hi there,

I'm about to sign up with VFX and I'm just wondering how I am going to need to configure it on my end.  At the moment I have a RTA1320 running half-bridge mode with a WRT54GL behind it.  I would like to connect the SPA2102 to one of the LAN ports of the WRT54GL as I have heard the SPA2102 can be a bit slow.  Now I guess I'm going to need to forward some ports on the WRT54GL to the SPA2102.. what ports do I need to forward?  My WRT54GL is running Tomato at the moment and I will be wanting to setup QOS on it.. any idea on how this will work?  Can I just prioritise the port heading to the SPA2102 on the WRT54GL?  Since the cable running between the WRT54GL and the SPA2102 will go into the SPA2102's WAN port will I need to enable WAN configuration?  Thanks for your help!

The SPA2102 will have DHCP enabled on the WAN so will get a local IP and provision itself when plugged into the WRT54GL.

As for con figuring QoS I've never done this with Tomato but the easiest is to just use the MAC address of the SPA2102 and give that priority.

dannyres: Hi there,

Yes, that will work OK.

dannyres: Now I guess I'm going to need to forward some ports on the WRT54GL to the SPA2102.. what ports do I need to forward?

No, you normally don't need to worry about that.  VFX uses NAT-traversal smarts to avoid the need for port forwarding.

dannyres: My WRT54GL is running Tomato at the moment and I will be wanting to setup QOS on it.. any idea on how this will work?  Can I just prioritise the port heading to the SPA2102 on the WRT54GL?

Yes, that would be a good idea.  Can't promise it will work though, because I had a router which didn't implement prioritisation properly.  However, definitely worth a try.

dannyres:  Since the cable running between the WRT54GL and the SPA2102 will go into the SPA2102's WAN port will I need to enable WAN configuration?

Yes, it would be a good idea to enable configuration via the WAN port.  After that, you should never need to use the LAN port again.

for QOS i'd say go with either IP or MAC address and high/highest priority.

I am going to use a similiar setup for my new house I a building..

I would use in order (in brackets what I am using)
- RTA1320 (Draytek 120)
- SPA2102 (SPA2102)
- WRT54GL (Apple Airport Extreme)

Then SPA is automatically getting bandwidth it needs.. and then sends rest onto router

I have not proven this works..  but should
