Since analogue service is being discontinued at the end of the month I called the TCL help desk to understand my options. That was 20 minutes of my life I won't get back.

Each question I asked the CSR required she put me on hold and to ask somebody, after which she came back with a non satisfactory response.  In summary

1. What happens if I want to upgrade my analogue to digital - no installation charge but I have to pay $25/month for the digital STB (versus $9.95 for the analogue one). No way

2. What happens if I upgrade the analogue box to a T-Box. On a 24 month plan, that is $14.95/month but I have to pay for an installation fee (presumably $99) since their offer of a free upgrade is only from analogue to digital, not analogue to T-Box

3. What happens if I don't do anything? Will my bill be reduced by $9.95/month effective 1 March. No idea - have to ask at which point I gave up.

I guess I am going to have to manually cancel my analogue box and just live without non Freeview channels in the second room since I am not going to pay $99 for an installation of a T-Box nor am I going to pay $25/month for a second STB.

Sky Digital is now looking more attractive since I won't be having a second STB and their installation is free.

Thanks TCL for nothing.

Your summary is correct from my own calls. The free installs and promo's were last year and if you did not do the upgrade then you have missed out. Sometimes waiting is not the best option.

The second box has gone up. While it seems an odd decision (it was an excellent point of difference from Sky) it just is the price now.

I dont see you being charged for a service that ends and I think that was covered, along with costs in the letter on analogue received a few weeks ago. Maybe you did not get a copy?

I got the letter but it's probably been ditched now since I was anguishing over whether to stop the second decoder completely or go to the T-Box. Since I can record what I want using a PC and for Freeview in HD, and I hardly watch any TV on the analogue box, I thought I would just let it go.

Interestingly since my account date falls in the middle of a month, I guess I will have to pay $5 for the last half of February?  I just dread another call to Manilla though to sort it out.

Well sent the e-mail but nothing but a new bill which doesn't seem to take into account the loss of analogue service.
