KiwiNZ: I had my first problem of note with the T-Box in 7 months. Last night I went to change channel when the screen froze for a second and went black.

I power cycled and after 10 minutes I still had a "No-signal" message on my screen. I power cycled again, same result. It took a further 4 power cycles to finally get the thing to respond. I increased the length of time I gave it to respond. However on the last power cycle it took only a few seconds to respond.

Welcome to the party!

I've had 3 recordings fail over the last few days for unknown reasons. Very frustrating as they were programs I really wanted to watch. I guess i could watch some of them via the TV web sites, but then I have to cover that out of my data cap, and the quality is pretty poor.
Or perhaps Telstra could have an on-demand facility where we can view content played in the last week that failed to record. Gone are the days when you could ask someone at work to borrow a VHS tape of a program that they recorded.

It breaks my heart to post this but as this forum has become a collection point for T-Box issues I am going to.  I purchased my T_Box when they were first released and have lived through the issues.  To be fair apart from the pixelation in the early days and the slow response my box and experience has been pretty good, in fact I had no serious complaints.  However since the last software update (293 ?) I have experienced three things that annoy me:

1.  The T-Box resets itself to channel 1 every night - Why ??

2.  In the last week I have suffered the black screen of death twice, this has resulted in having to power off the box at the wall, and then having to wait whilst the box restarts itself.  Both times the T-Box was in the middle of recording a program resulting in losing a substantial segment of the recording, there is no restart/continue function.  The first time we were watching a recorded program, the second time we were in the EPG and had selected a program that was due to finish at 8:30 - the time was pretty close to 8:29.

3.  The T-Box response to the remote has not improved in fact if anything it is worse than before the update.  How hard can it be to fix this issue.

1 - Gary from TelstraClear has posted that this will be fixed (in reality, I think it is done to force us to watch cooking shows as otherwise some of us wouldn't).

3. Gary has posted that a performance update is being tested (some people posting here have even seen it demonstrated). It won't be rolled out till the rugby is over.

I can confirm the performance issues are being worked on. Gary showed several of us the new updates whilst they were being tested, One update had some performance fixes, the other some functionality fixes. They were hoping to roll them into one big update (I think) before the RWC, but only managed to release the fetures (like being able to sort newest recordings). The performance updates looked really good (Lets face it, nearly anything is better than the current performance). I'm hoping they'll release it as soon as the final whistle blows and NZ holds up the Webb Ellis cup (Tui terminology comes to mind on both). It is coming.

AAAAARGH!!!!! My T-Box recording of the Phoenix against Gold Coast crashed. I was wanting to keep any eye on the rugby and was flicking between the last few minutes of the Phoenix game and the beginning of the All Blacks game and I got the dreaded black screen. I dashed off to our second T-Box to finish off watching the Phoenix game, but I did miss the Gold Coast equalizer, and by the time I got the game up on the other T-Box it was too late to see that. At the end of the game there was no replay of goals or anything!  It means I have bits of the football on 2 different T-Boxes! This is REALLY frustrating. Yell

Tried to record the rugby for the kids to watch. Refused to record for "an unknown reason". Getting tired of the recording failures I'm getting at the moment. It wouldn't be so bad if I could output to my old DVD recorder and record there, but the T-box stops that from happening. My wife is getting annoyed that we're paying for a service that isn't working well.

That is the point at which my advice is MySky.

At what point are your home relationships more important than saving a few dollars?

But what is the cost difference?  I'm just looking at the Sky pricing page and it does look cheaper than I remember it being last time I liked, but how much is would cost to get the same value you're on now?

I guess I'd have to look at the price of dropping the T-box and getting MySky in isolation, as I don't really want to go purchasing and setting up a satellite dish, changing Telco, ISP etc and replacing the entire cable package.

It's incredibly frustrating.

If you are not on a T-Box contract anymore you can drop T-Box and still keep Telstra for telephone and ISP. The only cost for the MySky would be the standard install cost.

Recording of "Dirty Jobs" failed, with a description of "Recording Failed for an Unknown Reason".
10-Oct-2011 CH70, 1530-1630, 60mins, Series link, no playback possible.
Previous 15 or so recordings of this series were successful.
TBOX previously rebooted at 2335 Sunday 09-Oct-2011.
Tuner 2 is no longer recording anything, only tuner 3 is successfully recording programs.
(Determined by examining MENU,GENERAL,SIGNAL and seeing which tuners were active).
Also, if any series links or manual recordings start while tuner 3 is recording onother program, then those programs will also fail with the same unknown reason.
Is this a well documented error, or is there further diagnostics I can provide ?
I will try not to reboot until someone tells me that there is no further useful information that my TBOX can provide.

Much as I dislike Sky, the WAF from the MySky is extremely high.  We have never had any trouble with it at all.  And I would say you would have a strong case to get out of any contract due to the instability of the box.  If you've purchased the box I would be asking for my money back.

TelstraClear: Hi everyone, thanks for the reports and feedback. Some info and a question from me:

Failed recordings: Clive – please let us know if the power cycle doesn’t fix the failed recordings behaviour you’ve noticed. It’d also help if you could let us know what the failed recordings report when you press ‘i’. There is an issue that can cause failed recordings with ‘failed for an unknown reason’ and that’s been logged with the software developers. In the meantime, a power cycle should work to return the recording to normal operation.

Keep function: Jason – can you please give us more information on the behaviour you’re reported with the ‘Keep’ function? We’ve tried to replicate it here and it’s working as it should (a ‘kept’ recording requires the parental PIN to be entered before it can be deleted).

Last frame pauses on playback: this is with the software developers for resolution in a future update. Pressing the Planner or EPG buttons will take you to those screens.  To clear the frozen video off screen, play another recording in the planner or delete the recording that just ended.

General issues: ThatGuy2004 – thanks for the detail, I’ll pass that on. The issues you noted have all been logged with the software developers and updates are being worked on.

Again, thanks for the feedback.

Gary

i record a programme, it says recorded, i decide i do not want it after all, i delete it and its gone, or a viewed programme, ie a recorded programme once viewed, i hit delete, and its gone, no pin required, unless there is something else you do once a programme is reorded watched or not to keep it thus making it require a pin to delete, if there is where do i find this?

Hi,

well it seems that i misunderstood the 'keep' funtion, it appears to work fine.

TelstraClear, you have an opportunity to do some diagnostics here...but I cant wait for too much longer, I need to reboot to restore service ...
