Tech just departed.  Yes we lost our recordings but main problem turned out to be a faulty (corroded) pole connection at the roadside!  One of the penalties for being among the first adopters of cable internet?  Bad timing though!!!

Unit came back to life as soon as the pole connection was fixed but then returned to bad behaviours - stuttering & never progressed beyond "updating".  Time will tell how many issues the new box and 'repaired' pole connection fix (if any).  Well obviously has sorted the 'nil signal' issue of the last few days but still have fingers crossed on the long running pixellation and freezing issues.

Does highlight the need for a backup facility for recordings.

That will never happen.  Much like with a MySky.

The content providers would never allow you to backup your own content.  Hence why a HTPC you build your own or a Dreambox or similar PVR that you own is the only way to go.

I can't see it happening either, but surely it could be implemented so that a backup (to an external HDD for example) could only be restored to another decoder with the same subscription.  I.e. the backup is no use to anyone or anywhere else, yet if the hardware fails and is replaced the user can still retrieve their contents.

I had no end of problems with pixelation and the guide not updating from time to time. Turned out to be the surveyors had nicked the cable when they put in a new peg. In the meantime, I had 4 technicians come out and replace the cable down the side of the house, between a couple of poles on the street and finally from the pole under ground to the house. Things worked much better after that.

Never had any issues with the phone during that time, but would lose Internet for periods of time. The funny thing was, the Internet connection would fail, and TV would be fine, or vice versa. They never seemed to fail at the same time.

I hope it all works for you now

It would have to happen when trying to view our favourite programme, "The Bill".
Viewing last night for 15 minutes and the TV screen went Black. Had to reboot and unfortunately lost part of a programme were were recording. Will these annoying episodes every be rectified. Yes, I know the answer, "This will be fixed with the next software update", yeah right!!

Man it's the constant lag that wears me down, so slow and jerky!

Thought I had beaten the freezes by only recording about 6 programmes per week, and cycling the power at least weekly. No such luck. Rather appropriate that it froze part-way through the second half of the Judge Judy double-banger episode on Vibe. I'm sure I could hear her trademark cry "Riiiiiidiculous!" as she tried the case of The People versus T-Box.

At least you are keeping you sense of humour, which helps put up with these events.

I have to conclude that the latest version of the T-Box software is far worse than the last release.  We have had multiple freezes each requiring a full power recycle when navigating the Planner menu particularly when trying to play a pre-recorded item. Boring.

These events are not "Black screen of death" type events (we still have those) they are  simply (can you use that word about the T-Box) the screen freezing.  Each one requiring the power recycle and the interminable wait while the T-Box updates itself, during which time you can only watch the spinning circle and the program you were trying to escape.

The worst part of this behaviour is that if you are recording anything when the T-Box exhibits this behaviour the recording fails even if you wait until the recording window has completed, and yes we have sat and watched a static display for 30 minutes in the hope that by not recycling the power we would get something out of the event.  But no.

It must be the season for problems.  We haven't had it freeze for a while now but last night it happened and of coruse we were recording 2 programmes at the time so goodness knows what was actually recorded.    I'm trying to convince my husband that maybe Xtra broadband is not so bad and if things are not fixed soon we should switch everything to Telecom and Sky.  I really hate to go back to them but I feel like a fool sticking with Telstra so long.  We waited long enough for them to put out the T-Box and then we finally get it and it's disappointing.  Still I live in hope they will fix it SOONER rather than later.

I feel the same way. Waited for the T-Box for a long time, maybe even since before MySky appeared as I was well aware of what was available overseas. I'm happy with the phone and internet service. Really like the fact that Saturn put the cable underground in my street and aren't keen on getting a dish on the side of my house. I've also found TelstraClear to be more helpful than Telecom was. For all I know Telecom is now wonderful to deal with, but I'd rather not find out they haven't changed.

If the responsiveness of the T-Box is not markedly improved by Christmas (this year) I'll certainly be reviewing my TV options. Maybe even cutting back to Freeview because I now watch less TV.

What is surprisingly is the different experiences reflected here. I'm sure we do all have different viewing/recording patterns, but I can't help thinking that there's some data loss or corruption occuring over the cable that exacerbates the software issues for some people.

We have been experiencing some freezing. It goes ...

Freeze ....play....freeze....play....freeze...play....freeze.....play then comes right

It would seem to be a buffering issue or resource issue. At the times this is occuring there is no recording or deleting etc happening as well as viewing so there is no multiple tuners etc working. So I am not so sure it is a resource issue.

Yeah I wonder how many bad installs are causing issues - perhaps data corruption is occuring which causes the TBox to freak out.

Ever since I had the TCL engineer tell me that the cores of the Coax cable were too long and he snipped them off, I reckon I've had a better experience with both the internet and TV signals...

So I guess it's now time for that long awaited update that will improve the performance... When's it coming Telstra?
