Oh, OK, cool, in a well-ventilated cabinet.  Box itself is cool, on top of DVD player, which is seldom used, and powered off.

My T-Box is officially stuffed!  Constantly freezes and goes to a black screen and says no signal.  Then I unplug the cables and restart it only to have it freeze again after 1-2 mins of use, its been like this for the past 4 days whereas a reboot was required maybe once or twice a week previously.

Called Telstra today and a repair guy will come out next Thursday!!!   They better fix it and give a decent credit on my account.  A week with no TV thanks Telstra.

chiefie: Whats the operating environment you guys in? Our t-boxes from first day have been doing well. Seem very weird and strange that you all experiencing less than happy usages.

Honestly I think it's just luck of the draw.  We have not had any problems with our T-Box lately but have had a lot in the past (I've probably jinxed it now).  Ours has always been stored the same way - in a well ventilated cabinet with nothing on top of it and it has nothing underneath it.

Me thinks there's a bit of teasing going on with these "mine's always been fine" with implied "it must be you" kind of posts. It's a simple fact that there are many bugs. They have been acknowledged by TelstraClear. At least one is readily reproducible - where the T-Box attempts to record a third programme and freezes. If some owners didn't have serious performance issues, then they must have a special release of the hardware. The remaining performance issues (it's still hardly responsive) must also be on all devices.

I look forward to what's coming in 2012, but would love to see a list of what is coming and roughly when.

You are either lucky to have struck a good unit or you work for Telestra?. Incidently, I have been involved with electronics for over 50 years so I know not to overheat equipment.

Then I must have two luckiest units installed on the first day of TCL announced Tbox. One operates in open environment, the other is within a closed but sufficiently ventilated tv cabinet. Both are on the whole time without ever going into standby mode - them both generate sufficient heat at best.

I always use the standby mode when not in use, but as from to-day I'll leave the unit on and see how things go.

Sitting there watching a Midsomer Murder (recorded, with another being recorded) and screen went blank. T-Box unresponsive so had to do the power-dance. After about 30 minutes there'd only been one murder, so quite a slow episode. Will just have to imagine how it turned out. Probably a few more murders. Barnaby should be looking for the only person in the village who owns a T-Box ...

Anyone else notice a number of series links set to record 'fell-off' on the first January? I had severall recordings that record daily/weekly that were gone on the first and had to be replaced.

I've only two linked recordings - Judge Judy and Coro Street. Judge Judy is correct (the only link I use that deals with 2 episodes being run back to back, and that doesn't annoyingly include all the alternate broadcast times). Coro Street is set to record Thursday, so that looks fine too.

Well, I tried Chiefie's idea about leaving the unit on instead of using the standby, and everything worked okay for a few days. However, when turning the television on to-day it again started with a black, blank screen, resulting using in the T-Box reboot shuffle yet again.

Sorry, Chiefie but your theory just got blasted out of the water:-(

I've reached the stage where I'm seriously thinking of ditching the T-Box and going to Sky:-(

We always leave our unit on - seems to make no difference at all.  We hadn't had problems for quite a while but this morning was greated by the dreaded black screen and the red record button on the unit was on.  We had one partially recorded programme (reason: unit powered off) and one failed recording (reason: unit was off at scheduled time).  I hope we don't lose all our recordings when we go away - not that there's a lot on the telly at the moment worth recording!
