RobertT: Anyone else notice a number of series links set to record 'fell-off' on the first January? I had severall recordings that record daily/weekly that were gone on the first and had to be replaced.

I've only two linked recordings - Judge Judy and Coro Street. Judge Judy is correct (the only link I use that deals with 2 episodes being run back to back, and that doesn't annoyingly include all the alternate broadcast times). Coro Street is set to record Thursday, so that looks fine too.

Oops - sorry. Told a lie. The Coro Street link was for Friday, so fail. Box also froze this morning when I simply went into Planner and use the Next Page key. Last time I cycled the power was just a couple of days ago.

As for anyone trying things like leaving the box turned "on" all the time - I've a feeling pretty much everything has been covered in the previous 46 pages :-)

Is it possible for the blank screen problem to relate to the HDMI connections at the Tbox? Our set-up here is Tbox to TV via a receiver, using the HDMI input/output. We can sometimes "fix" the blank screen by switching the receiver input from Tbox to something else, then back to Tbox. I reckon this is "resetting" the HDMI connection. Just a suggestion.

@Jennydon: Your blank screen problem sounds like something different. Possibly related to your TV set's HDMI connection. You might like to tell TCL about that because they want to know about incompatibilities between the TBox and some HDMI TVs..

What we normally mean by blank screen problem is the crash that happens at the end of recordings where the screen goes blank and the red record light stays on. When this happens the box is unresponsive and needs to be rebooted.

Ok so a technician came to my house today, he didn't even look at or test my existing T Box, he just replaced it and also replaced the modem which he said was out of date.  5 mins later he was gone.   Good news is the T Box is not freezing and going to a blank screen now.....wohoo!  Now to call Telstra tomorrow to ask for a credit for the week Ive been without Sky.

Final straw - box froze one night, so I restarted it and went to bed.

Next morning - (my box had 50% capacity full of series to watch) - 100% capacity back. ALL recordings DELETED.

I called Teltra but they couldn't explain or help...

If that happened to someone else I probably wouldn't believe it.

Can anyone send me the last two months of programs on Sky?

I had a blank screen last night - no picture or sound, but the T-box was responsive and I could select the planner and fav menus, however the box stopped responding totally as I was going through the Fav menu. Possibly I asked it to do too much as it was about to crash. A reboot fixed it.

I have had occassional HDMI issues, but find that pulling the HDMI plug out of the back of the T-box and reinserting it fixes the problem. I have a 3-input -> 1-output HDMI splitter between the T-box and TV, with laptop (occasssionally) and DVD player plugged into the other inputs.

My T-box is on all the time - I never put it into standby as I doubt that actually does much (after all, the unit can record in standby).

It makes the blue light change to red! Last year (so long ago) I spotted several reports that set-top boxes are huge energy users (e.g.  http://www.ecogeek.org/component/content/article/3543 ). Won't be surprised if the Greens try to get MySky and T-Box banned this year, which will solve all our problems ;-)

Well, banning the T/Box might not be a bad idea eh?. Incidently, our T/Box has never been turned off!!

I just thought I would post some good news.  I am not sure what I am doing differently but my T-box hasn't crashed in a month.  I am a reasonably heavy user that records more than one program at a time, the box is regularly more than 50% full and I never turn it off.  Since the latest update it has been responsive and faultless.

The only thing that I can think of is that I had the cable connection looked at and repaired.  Maybe this had something to do with it... maybe it didn't.

Haha!  I bet it is frozen when I get home now... would serve me right!

2 lock ups in 2 nights, I've now had enough, it's time to go back to Sky for me.

I have given them the benefit of the doubt, they have had a year to fix the issues but enough is enough. Very cynical of Telstra to roll out a product that is obviously not ready for commercial release. I'm also going to also ask for a credit based on the problems I have had and they can go whistle for any early termination fees.

It's a shame they couldn't get their act together as Sky needed some competition but Telstra have have blown their chance.

Came back after 12 days away to find the box had died on about day 7, missed three recordings (with the box powered off reason ??).  Had to do the power dance to get it back on line.  At a cursory glance it would appear some to the series links have also dropped off as well, which is a significant problem for this product.

Yep, discovered the same problem when I returned after a week away. Left the box on standby, when we returned it would not respond to the remote or the front panel button to turn on. Once I had disconnect the power and rebooted (and waited for the obligatory five minutes while it is *Updating*) I discovered the sad news that it had locked-up about two days after we went on holiday. Said a number of short, bad words, wished large amounts of ill on the Telstra people responsible for this piece of junk and wondered, once again, how long it will be before they fix the problems.

It's a love/hate relationship.

I love
  1. Being able to time-shift programmes - free to air programming does not suit me
  2. Being able to fast forward through the adverts - can't stand the audio compression so will not tolerate ads.
I hate
  1. Failed recordings
  2. Sitting down to watch something when I taker a break, only to have to reboot and wait for the stupid thing to become functional again.
  3. Having to remember to reboot at least once a week to minimise the number of lock-ups.
  4. Not being able to watch what I've recorded if the cable service is down (because the modem can't fetch the secret squirrel decryption stuff). What a rip-off - my cable service is down so that I have no live TV, but I can't watch what is sitting on the hard drive either - which Einstein thought that was a good idea?!?!?!?
  5. That Telstra does not care enough about its customers to put some real effort into fixing this.
  6. Not being able to pause the pay-per-view movies - the "Now's Good" button really means "Now's your only option" (yes, I know you can watch it again anytime on the 24-hours but the whole idea of a PVR is to watch it when I want to watch it, not on some stupid schedule).
  7. Paying the same rates as Sky subscribers for a lesser product. If a Sky subscriber's service dies (e.g. their set-top box malfunctions) they can go to iSky, Telstra subscribers can go to blazes.
  8. Paying the same rates for a lesser product #2. A sky subscriber can book recordings remotely from virtually anywhere in the world, either through a browser or from their smart phone. A Telstra subscriber can also book recordings remotely - via their remote control from anywhere within line of sight of their T-Box
Hmmmm, will stop there as I suspect I'm preaching to the converted - or is it the hoodwinked?

Ooo - you are tempting fate!  Ours hadn't had any issues for a while and I wasn't brave enough to say anything out loud but did think it and sure enough last week it powered off so we had a failed recording and a partial recording.

I know! lol.  Still no problems though, so I am surprised people are still having major issues.  As I said I am on the same software version...  There must be a variable that is different because I am just not that lucky :D

In all fairness we have not had nearly as many problems as we used to *touch wood*.  I'm just hoping it records everything when we go away.
