Is T-Box really that bad? We have MySky currently, but we're thinking of moving over triple play services because Slingshot can't get their arse into gear... but if the T-Box is that bad, we might just bin the phone line and just get Telstra internet instead. MySky works. T-Box doesn't appear to!

My box hasn't frozen in 5 days. Unless you are impressed when your MySky runs 5 days without any problems, keep your MySky for now. My all-time record is 9 days. I've had a T-Box since late 2010. My first box was replaced in April 2011.

My recommendation - come back to this thread in a few months to see if we've had an update, and whether it's made our T-Boxes reliable.

Yeah, our MySky has run without problems for about a year and a half. So yeah. We'll be keeping it, then. Cheers. :)

My T-Box was working quite well for about a year. But over the last 6 months we have had to reboot the thing about twice a month. Typically seems to freeze when we are recording, try and pause or change channel or go into the planner or pretty much any random thing while a recording is taking place can lock it up.

I have to say I really like the look of the latest Magic TV, and am wondering if it could be a replacement. Dump the T-Box, but use the Magic TV to record stuff off Sky. Does anyone know if that is possible? I guess if you get rid of the T-Box and get a normal digital decoder you should be able to output the signal to the Magic TV and hopefully record that without any loss of quality?

What do people on this forum think?

For me the big advantages of the Magic TV are much more storage space (1TB), can edit recordings, can move content on and off the device, can play content from external storage.

I thought the T-Box was gonna have access to external content via the USB port or the ethernet port?

I think the Magic TV would need HDCP input if you want to record HD. Otherwise, I can't see it being a problem if you're using SD cables.

I would go down the Dreambox or similar grey market box.  That way you get the best of all worlds... But some tutu'ing will be required.

I would hate to recommend the T-Box to anyone - until they sort all the problems out. Mine just froze again and while recording two channels and of course that means part recordings and no manual recording option. I could scream! The thing that gets me is how incredibly HOT the box gets when it freezes. Is this the same for everyone or maybe my box is simply overheating and my problems could be solved with a new box?

So.. remind me when the update is coming.... blank screen the last two mornings. Not HDMI related this time. Tbox reset required.

I've not noticed the heat before. Mine stands on its end next to the TV, rather than flat.
Mine has been pretty reliable since the last update improved performance by several orders of magnitude - onle 2 or 3 crashes, so I've been very lucky.    I'd love to know what is different between the boxes that keep failing, and those that don't. Perhaps there are some flaky componenets. Maybe if we recorded serial numbers on the forum, we'd get an idea if similar numbers had similar problems.
I do hope they get an update out soon that will improve the reliablity for everyone else.

That is such a brilliant idea. Why don't everyone who is experiencing a problem write down their serial number, update version and any perculiar thing you noticed when it crashed. That way we could help Telstra out with problem management.

Good idea, RobertT.  I will start a record now, and keep notes of problems over the next couple of weeks.

Black screen tonight.  Thought I'd flick on the tv just to check it was all ok.  Hopefully it finishes updating before the other half throws it through TCL's window.

There was a general network fault across many nodes tonight - mine took 30 mins to come back, but it has restored.

Mine just came back in time for the scheduled recording.
