Teza:
I have put up with the TBox problems for the last year but the icing on the cake is it appears I have been overcharged for the service for the last year i.e. $50 for the sky digital package instead of around $36. ARRGGGHHHHH, looking forward to them calling me back with their excuse on that one (if they ever call back).

Just seen your posting in regards pricing and decided to check my TelstraClear invoice.

I paid $499 upfront for the T-Box so that I wouldn’t need to pay a monthly rental bill. Looking at the invoice it shows the I’m paying $49.81 a month for the “Digital TV” does this mean I’m paying the rental charge even though I paid the $499 upfront payment?

I believe that the $36 figure must be the 2 year special that TCL offered new customers (not us old customers who have paid the $499 and suffered through the ongoing TBox debacle but thats a different story!)

The $36.10 is to add the sky tier to the tbox... otherwise you only get freeview channels.  I think the confusing part is that on the bill it shows up as a charge of $49.81 because the discount is put on later for the triple service -$13.74.... which makes the TV charge $36.07

Nice to know that I'm not the only one that was silly enough to pay $499 upfront:-)

Thanks for the information, that saves me an hour ringing TelstraClear:-)

I didn't pay the $499 up front... I got the free t-box rental on a two year contract but that is clearly charged and discounted separately as a different line item.

Tonight, I was able to duplicate with 100% success (or failure) to lock up the T-box...

While recording 2 programs - try and watch a recorded program from the day before - automatic lockup.

Now, one of the main selling features is: record 2 channels and watch another. I can't, can you??

I have just performed the above actions, and I did not have any problems.

Out latest issue (just now) was that (AFAIK) we were recording 1 channel, had been watching recorded material, deleted a few items from the planner, then tried to play the next episode of the show we had just watched .... and all locked up. Reboot here we come.

But surely that means those with the price on the web site will also get the triple play discount after the original charges making the price even cheaper for them? But you could be right, Telecom billing is a dark art and one of the things Telecoms companies use to confuse us all (says one who has to go through and do a billing audit for my customers in the next couple of weeks:( )

We have had it freeze up like this several times.  It doesn't seem to be able to cope with doing what it is designed to do.  Mind you we have also have it freeze up several times while doing nothing at all!

Teza,
I'm fairly confident that the "Triple Service Discount" applies to customers who have TV, Phone, and Internet Services from TCL. In addition to the Digital TV charge of $49.81, there is an item on my accounts for the T-box monthly charge of $14.95.

I have complained before that the billing items don't match up to the quotes on the website because of the way they apply the discounts to the billing.  You don't see these discounts on the website, you just see the reduced additional charges.  I think this is a bit of a dark art for Telstraclear too but if you take the time to work it all out it is correct.

How much easier would it be though if the bill line items matched the package descriptions and prices on the web site!

Had a few days of problem free watching and started to think maybe the T-Box was coming right at last only to be hit with a flurry of problems.

I retire earlier than my wife (who never gets to bed before 1am) and was woken from a deep sleep to come and fix the television. The screen had completely frozen and no amount of button pressing would get a result. I decided to wait a few minutes and then pressed the guide and planner buttons  on the remote again, low and behold everything started worked correctly. This afternoon I settled in to watch a recorded programme, everything was fine until I paused the recoding to make a drink. When I returned (just a few minutes later) the screen was completely blank, went through the button pressing procedure to no avail, the only way to get a picture was to reboot.

As well as the above problems, I’ve had failed recordings, and part recording, but the worst thing is when recording the SoHo channel (extra $10 a month) it has started to records the Nickelodeon channel instead.

All in all the T-Box is worse now than it’s ever beenL

What is wrong with the tbox? There hasn't been 1 day in the last 2 weeks when ive came home and haven't had to reset the tbox because it's just a blank screen. Why on earth does it do this?? It's so annoying! it means before I watch anything I have to take the power cord out and in and wait 10 minutes!

Surely they wouldnt charge me a cancellation fee if I got rid of it? When I went with it there was never anything that said you must reboot before you watch everytime.
