We suggest that, if you are experiencing this issue, you check you are running the latest firmware.

Hi Gary

As I have previously told you I have a Sony KDL-40CX520.  This is always updated with the latest firmware as it has an Ethernet connection and is updated automatically whenever one is available.  I have never had an issue with the sound before.  This is new and I been using the t-box with this TV for at least 1 year.

Cheers
Kirk

Thanks Kirk. We know the issue and that a TV firmware update may not resolve it, which is why we have asked Digisoft to work on it.

Cheers, Gary

Hi Gary,

As a QA tester I am well aware of the issues of not having all possible equipment and configurations available to test with.  Have you ever considered releasing updates to a small cross-section of your customer base for a few days?  This would mean that your whole customer base is not adversely affected by issues with the update.  I presume many of your customers are not on geekzone and so are unaware that these issues are known and are being looked at. I also wonder why there is not a linkable page on your website that details what the update is supposed to fix and what the known issues are.  This would be much more helpful than coming to geekzone to be advised of a URL that cannot be linked to from the main site.

Cheers
Kirk.

Or how about post on Geekzone saying the OPTIONAL update is available and ask for feedback.

And that people can back-out if they don't like it.

Rather than forcing it down to everyone knowing that it still has issues, with one's fingers crossed that not too many people have issues.

I too work in software development and would like to think extensive testing across a broad range of TVs is very much in your best interests.  Even at a pinch taking a TBox into a Harvey Norman or similar retail store and testing with each TV they had in store.

Gary,

Can you please explain what these mean...
[...]
  • Updating enabled for when the EPG changes and Series Linked programmes change (this is also updated in the Planner).
[...]
Regards
Kirk.

Hi Kirk,
[...]
If a broadcaster changes their EPG data from one time to another the Series Link will update with the new time.

Cheers, Gary

Gary, does this mean that program auto-extension is now possible?
(auto-extension is when a program being recorded runs beyond the scheduled allotted time, [such as Grand Slam Tennis or Formula1], but the recorder keeps recording until the event is over. MySky has this feature.
If auto-extension is not available in this latest update, is there news on when it might be?
Thanks.

I've noticed that the sound comes up quicker than before. I gather this was the HDMI issue that Gary has mentioned. Channel changes are also smoother. True, the screen still goes blank, but I think it's faster and I no longer get glitches in the sound when the new channel appears. And best of all, when I turn it on after work it doesn't subject me to the Ellen Show (I'm sure TV1 has other shows, but I've always changed channel before Ellen ends). And I agree that moving through the menu/planner/guide screens is a bit faster.

For those with volume issues on the T-box:

I have the sound issue where the volume doesn't work on all channels.  As a workaround I set the T-box volume to 100% and then followed the instructions in the remote guide to program my TV to the remote.  This works fine for changing the volume on the TV.
I then followed the instructions for enabling Volume Punch Through for the TV.  This means you can have the remote in STB mode and the volume in the TV will be changed instead of the T-Box

To enable Volume Punch Through for the TV simply:
1 Press and hold down the Now’s Good key until the LED (underneath TV or DVD key) lights up twice.
2 Press 9 9 3.
3 Then press the TV key and the LED will light up twice.

Again for those that might not have seen it previously the link to the remote guide:

Thanks for that pointer, kharris.  Now all I have to do is teach the "remote controller" in the house how to use it!!  We will persevere  :-)

haha!

If you set the Volume Punch Through feature she wont have to do anything different.  With this feature on both the volume and the mute buttons will use the TV's volume and mute automatically. i.e. you do NOT have to set the remote to TV mode to control the TV volume. Just make sure that you set the volume on the T-Box to 100% first so all the levels will be the same on all channels and then you wont have to worry about the volume issue anymore.

Cheers
Kirk.

And a friendly haha to you, too, Kirk!  It's a "he" who needs the tutelage  :-)  First I explained how to use the TV button to adjust the volume, then I did the switch to Volume Punch Through, and had to explain not having to hit the TV button first.  We're getting there!!  With no problems with crashes, etc, I am really getting to like the T-box experience a lot better.

Only extra improvement I would really like to see is not having the buffer cause "recording two programs already" problem, but for now, I guess this will just have to remain a pipedream.
Cheers,
weka

oops sorry weka! How sexist of me!!! lol!

It has already been stated that there will be a manual recording feature added but who knows when.  I'm not sure how it will function but on other PVRs I own it allows you to manually adjust the time of recordings to remove any conflict.

Maybe Gary from Telstraclear will comment on how this function will work and when it might possibly be expected?

cheers
Kirk.

Bad news everyone.  The end-of-record crash has sadly not been fixed.  It happened again to me this evening (at 6:30pm).  Exact same symptoms as before: Red light; black screen; "Part recorded".

And the FFWD is definitely faster than it says (as others have noticed).  It still says 32x, but is actually going about 60x.  You can ffwd through an hour program in approx one minute.  Not that I mind that - faster is better in this case.

However I haven't noticed any improvement in the general responsiveness of the UI as others have suggested.

+1

The end of recording crash happened for me too tonight, at 2135.

Gary - you told us that this had been fixed. Could you please pass this back to those who need to know?
