Stepdoh: Looking at my current options for when I move to wellington, and Telstra's seems a pretty good offer. Financially at least. Is the Freeview T-Box as much of a heap as it sounds in this forum? What I used to like about cable was that it was pretty robust compared to other options (partic DVB-T and satellite).

Each to his own, I guess, but when weighing it all up, I would choose TC despite the T-box problems.  Their services are great when it comes to Internet (cable) and landline, and I feel that the T-box problems have settled down quite a bit, and on the whole, it's not a very bad service now.  Which is not to say it is perfect all the time.  If they can get the stuttering taken care of, and the odd crash once in a while, it will be sorted from my point of view.  Much improved since the last update, and the problems feel more like niggles than majors to me.  Please note, I have all three services, and get a discount for that, so the cost advantage comes into it for me too.

I agree with you wekanz, the quality of TC products, ie, Internet (Cable) and landline is really very good. The TV or T-Box works really well too, when it goes through smooth moments. As mentioned there are minor niggles which is whats frustrating most of us at this stage.

I still recommend TC despite T-Box issues. I just hope that they sort it!

We have a small problem and someone may be able to supply the answer. We were having very bad pixellation and this was fixed when a technician called last week. I think he also went into a setting via the engineers pin number?. I now notice that the bottom of the news that scrolls at the bottom of the BBC, CNN, Bloomfield etc is cut in half. Same with the 'todays weather' on TV3. Anyone know how to fix this. It is just about impossible to get through on Telestra faults.

Hi Fog,

Do you have a widescreen TV?  I think you do (I remember I have helped you previously).

Widescreen TV:

  • Check the T-Box is set to 16x9 under "General->TV Settings"
  • Check your TV set is set to 16x9 or 'Full' under it's aspect ratio settings

4:3 TV

  • Check the T-Box is set to 16x9 under "General->TV Settings"
  • Check your TV set is set to 16x9 or 'Full' under it's aspect ratio settings

Cheers,

Grant

Thanks Grant for your help. We do have a widescreen TV  and have it set as suggested but still have
the same problem. I guess the problem is with the TV. It is not that important and I am grateful that the
technician fixed the original fault.

Hi Fog,

Ok.

There should be an 'aspect ratio' button on the TV remote.  I suspect the TV has been changed to 'zoom' which is why the picture is cut off.

If you locate the 'aspect ratio' button on your TV remote, you can press it and cycle through the different aspect ratios.   When you reach '16:9' or 'Full' stop pressing the button and the full picture should then show on the TV.

Cheers,

Grant

Further to Zolly's good advice, some TV's such as my Panasonic also have an "Overscan" option buried somewhere in the advanced menu options. This is separate to the aspect ratio controls and could also cause straps and tickers to go out of safe.

Cheers,
Pete.

I have cycled through the 'aspect ratio' button and have it set on FULL. This says "Stretches the 4:3 picture horizontally, to fill the 16:9 screen". Unfortunately, this does not fix the problem.

Thanks for your help. My Sony Bravia doesn't appear to have this option. Whatever has taken place it is since the technician fixed our pixellation problem, but it may just have been coincidence.

Sony has similar settings under settings->screen (not display).

It has screen position settings... as well as pixel display settings

Hi Fog,

So you have confirmed the T-Box is on 16:9 and not 4:3.

Can you please post the model number of your TV set?  We can then look it up and find what the culprit might be.

Thanks,

Grant

The T/Box is on 16:9. It is a Sony Bravia KCV-32V200A. Hope that helps.

Hi Fog,

I couldnt find that model, but found KLV-32V200A.

Try the 'Normal' setting via the Aspect Ratio button on your TV remote.

Cheers.

That is the correct model. My error. "Normal"  mode makes no difference to the Banner.
The "Full" mode is best for picture viewing.  None of the modes, WideZoom/Normal/Full/Zoom made any difference to the readability of the Banner.

Thanks for that information. I really don't want to get into those settings because I have not altered anything and it was previously displaying correctly.

Hi Fog

I cant load up the sony site at the moment to look again at the moment.  Are you connected via HDMI or AV?   If HDMI is the TV actually set to the HDMI input?  Perhaps the tech has hooked up the AV cables and it's switched to that input?
