And create a single point of failure.

Yes you would have to have redundancy in the back end and not decommission all towers close to each other especially in built up areas.

But we are never going to be able to get good reception in remote areas without all providers using one tower. Eg Stewart Island. Vodafone would never put anything up as it's too costly for the small number of users that are there. Even using the same tower with their own kit would probably not be viable. But if you are a Vodafone customer and visit you won't have reception.
