I figured someone might be interested in the units being uesd by VFNZ for the RBI Pilot in South Auckland.

This is from the install at my Inlaws place in Papakura.

The Antenna Install - 900mHz pointing at the cell tower (Top Antenna).

The Router / FXS Unit itself.

The Connectors on the Unit
Left is a USB "B" 5v 2A power, then an SMA Antenna connector, 4 Ethernet and an FXS.

The Underside of the Unit.
The sim slot is on the right (Our sim is blank white)

And the Web interface, default user/pass is admin
Interestingly, look at the IP address, the public IP was 124.x.x.x

The installer said that the signal wasn't good enough for us to use the FXS port.
We have a few trees between us and the Cell Tower.

Interesting, I wonder why they can't use the FXS port? Whats the latency/throughput like and how does the pricing work?

Not sure on pricing as they got it because of a screwup by a door to door salesman (Yes we can give you BB in 10 days, even though the cabinet is full etc...)

The throughput is not bad (2-5Mbps), latency is a bit higher than my 3g modem at home (120ms vs 40ms) to Vodafone's speedtest server.
The installer said that the signal wasn't strong enough for the FXS to work reliably.

So do you think that you'll get ADSL broadband pricing?

I rang VF and asked to get our Bach supplied with any kind of broadband internet, and they said nothing was available.

So, I have roughly the same set up as you have posted, except I use a 14Dbi directional antenna aimed using GZ's own Bartenders cell tower info, running on a Mikrotik 411 router with HSPDA+ (21Mbps) 850/900/2100 Sierra Wireless MC8705 3G card. I get -86dB. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/BarTender/7403

My latency is around 80-250ms. Normally the first packet is the highest. And my speeds range from 300kbps to 3Mbps

I also have a PAP2T Voip router (2Talk) connected to this setup, and it works most of the time. My gauge is If Stuff.co.nz loads quick, then the phone works. Peak time (9am-9pm) over New Years was horrible, and I even rang VF to complain. They advised me that Taupo was having congestion issues, but nothing showed on their issues web page (Another story).

It would be nice to know your pricing, but I pay $10 per month for 512MB, then $20 per GB after that. Hopefully RBI would have sharper pricing.

I wonder how I could get on the trials?
I am in an area where you have to hold your tongue right while on one leg, and outside in the rain to call someone. VF and XT similar.
