I see there are problems accessing some international servers today, including services hosted with CloudFront... If I use a VPN and bypass the TelstraClear transparent proxy then all works fine.

How many layers of NAT are you hitting this stuff from MF?

I notice problems with a number of sites from behind double NAT which go away when I bounce everything though a local proxy that's only at one level of NAT.

One router only, as usual. If I had changed my local configuration I'd naturally revert changes to make sure it wasn't the problem.

freitasm: I see this is still going. For example http://laughingsquid.com is freezing when loading sometimes...

I can confirm the laughing squid. This would explain the trouble I've been have with a few websites not loading lately. It's intermitent too so you go back 10 minutes later and it's fine, half an hour after that and it won't work.

What does "VPN" have to do with TelstraClear transparent proxy? Users don't have to find workarounds, the company has to fix the infrastructure.

...for the benefit of those who read this post and don't know...  you just bypass the proxy that's causing you annoyance.

I agree that would be ideal.  Is it realistic?

I think more realistic would be finding another provider.

... for the benefit of those who read this post, I already mentioned in the OP that using a VPN will bypass the proxy and it works.

I assume you've already called the helpdesk, and logged a ticket?

No. I can't be bothered. Seriously I would imagine a large company should have a NOC with all sorts of alarms going on when their gear goes rogue.

Calling a help desk will give me 45 minutes of "please restart your router", "please plug your PC directly to the modem", please restart your PC" when this is certainly not something here.

Ring the NOC and ask them.

This "issue" won't be for every single website, and is one that is not likely to generate any alerts.
You will need to call them and let them know, if you want it fixed. If you're really against ringing the helpdesk and getting quicker service by asking for a ticket to be logged, then email help@clear.net.nz with your issue and troubleshooting.
