got my 4S from vodafone when they first came out for $199 on the $100 monthly plan a couple months back, but was thinking of getting one for the missus and now they are $699 on the same plan??? what happened to old technology gets cheaper??

The iphone costs ~$1050 all up.. You got it cheap because you signed a 2 year plan with vodafone back then.. Vodafone have decided not to subsidise it as much anymore..

just checked out telecom's theirs are still cheap, why would u go vodafone for the same thing if the competition is selling it for 1/2 the price..weird....

Maybe because you're still stuck in a contract but need a shiny new toy? Or the data plans are more suitable? Or you have an irrational hatred of Telecom?

If the device can be locked to GSM-only it'd also get much better battery life than Telecom's 3G-only network, but a) I don't think it can and b) it'd kinda defeat the purpose of getting one.
