codyc1515: Just saw these Smart Data plans. Looks good, more data, less minutes.

These are not new, They been around for about 6 months.
Here is a better link to the same plans   http://www.vodafone.co.nz/phones-plans/plans/smart/

Absolutely not true, they were up earlier but after me discussing them for about an hour they were taken down.

I don't get what you mean by ''they were taken down''

They took down the info on the plans.

That's strange, maybe they changed their minds about it. Not enough value. I haven't seen any announcements on their forum today about new plans.

You are still able to get them but I haven't tried. If anybody is interested I have links to the page which are still active...

I'm told they were deleted :(

Looks like they are back up.

http://www.vodafone.co.nz/phones-plans/plans/smart-data/

To be honest they don't look like anything special to me, 250MB Less data for the same monthly price as I would be paying if I got the $20 1GB Data pack with my current Smart $45 plan (12 Month contract $5 Discount).

$300 off a phone isn't too bad however like most people buying a Smart Phone plan I already have a phone and don't feel like changing and I'd rather not sign up to a 24 Month Contract anyway.

Thinking once my 1GB Data pack fades away I might pay the Fee and go over to 2 Degrees Prepay myself.

Are you currently under Contract? If not, What I did was I rang Vodafone and spoke to their retention team and they said they will let me have my 1GB add on free if I sign up for 12 months or 24 months (Gave me the add on for 2 years free if I signed up for 2 years)

I think I am quite pleased with my offer. After my 2 years is up I plan to re sign and hope to get the same deal.

Not really sure if I want to resign even if I could get it anyway, I have been contemplating canceling it for a while now.

$40 a month is a little excessive for me considering I tend to use only a few of my 100 minutes and a few of my 2,500 texts
Currently sitting on 3 out of 100 Minutes used with 10 out of 2,500 texts used 906MB of Data used but that's more putting it to use because I can than a requirement.

I like how you get more from Two Degrees but their Network doesn't seem to be built as good as Vodafone's like I tried Two Degrees on several occasions and each time my incoming Text messages got delayed. So really Vodafone is my only option Telecom don't seem to get a very strong signal and their phones run flat quicker cause they are running on UMTS all the time, And it would mean I would have to buy a new handset which is out of the question.

My phone from what I have tried appears to be perfectly compatible with all the alternatives, I'd probably go for Prepay 2 Degrees or Vodafone, Not a fan of Telecom.

2 Degrees would be more likely due to the smaller top-up amounts available and generally cheaper prices.

Had a play with it recently and found it to be alright but still not enough to sway my opinion of Telecom.

Could you folks put a little more effort and be considerate to everyone by cutting down on the QUOTE. There's a lot of things in the quotes that don't add to the discussion, specially if you are replying to the post just above yours.

Either that, or I lock this discussion.

[And don't use sarcasm on your reply, it'll be an instaban - I know you are thinking of quoting this]

Ah, Yes it occurred to me after my latest post that the quoting was perhaps a little overzealous, I will try keep the quoting to a minimum in future.

Sorry.

I wouldn't say they are crap, However they are have only a marginal benefit over the standard variants.

Seems a little odd after Free 1GB for 6 Months really.

It's a step backwards from the smart plans, and the free gig should have been extened for a year. When you start to think that Vodafone have got it right they pull a stunt like this. with the current smart plans it would be cheaper to buy the gig add on then to be on one of the new smart plans.

You are right, I completely fail at math.

$45 + $20 would be $65 for the $70 Smart Data Plan, The $65 would also include another 250MB of data as well as have the option of a 12 Month Contract instead of 24 allowing it to become $60 instead of $65.

The drop in price alone over 2 years comes to a total of $240 which is only $60 shy of the Handset discount anyway.

If Vodafone where actually looking to provide customers with more data at a reasonable rate like they have been asking for then they have certainly dropped the ball on that one.

Also the ETF on these plans is EXTREMELY high, Even after 12 months the charge is still OVER (Often by almost $100) the Handset discount.

The next thing Vodafone will do is discontinue the 1gb add (Worth $20.00) on so customers on the older smart plans have to change onto the new Smart Data plans (If they need more then 250-500mb) pay more and be under a contract. Vodafone seem happy enough making these dumb plans which make customers feel ripped off then they change providers.

Grant01:

You don't know that. Vodafone would not do anything that doesn't make financial sense. Customers are not changing in droves as you say. 99% are happy with the current plans.
