freitasm: Folks, I see a lot of thought going into something that is completely out of your control. I am sure lots of feedback is welcome, but be realistic.

Expect less, and whatever you get will surprise you and exceed your expectations.

Part of the fun of buying a Lotto ticket is so one can dream of what could be.

Let the kids have their fun, let them dream and let them get excited, let them speculate and come up with crazy unrealistic future possible promotions. :)

That $10 a month for unlimited calling and texting to as many 021 as you like will sure get the cost per mobile user ratio up now wouldn't it?

I can't agree with you more Johnr that this is getting worse.
However, on the otherside, I would be so thrilled if that is true (it already made my day just to think about it being a reality). But it is time to get out of this perfect dream (at least for me). In fact, just for some additional info, Telcos in Hong Kong is charging approx $10NZD for 1000 min and text send to same network is free (so that's why I do not believe this as the critial mass is just not there in NZ yet! a population of 7 million in hk versus 4 million in NZ)

Actually, just asking for some feedback, how much are you prepared to pay for 1000 min (anytime to VF) + (1000 Text? to VF numbers?) I think I will be willing to pay $20 NZD for this and I will be so hocked into this I am sure!

Yet, this will make it significantlly cheaper than any "you choose" or "get" plans (unless you will need to call heaps of landline/Telecom numbers)

So, in short, this is not realistic at all although I wish this is true! Just cannot wait to find out more about it! There is just one more weekend left before the end of the month! Really wish Vodafone would provide more certainty please!

There is no way Vodafone would offer a deal like that for that sort of price. It wouldn't surprise me is Best Mate does turn out to be the same concept but the price is way too low. Telecom have effectively set the benchmark of $10 flat rate calling between mobile<->PSTN, Vodafone setting a price below this would be crazy.

Vodafone Group are no longer interested in chasing customer numbers, they are made that clear. it is not to stablise revenue and create growth from new products & services.

$6 voice & sms is just plain stupid, no network could survive with potentially a large number of users generating a $6 ARPU. At least $10TXT gets $10 revenue off customers.

Letting people choose more than 1 Best Mate may start to make sence but the rumor (as obviously started by the thread on TM) is that it will be $6 and limited to 1 Best Mate per person.

True, but even as this is speculation, limiting it to a single person is a bad move in a lot of customers eyes, mine included. It would actually be enough to get me to move to Telecom.

comparing telcos in NZ and hong kong is funny

7m in a space smaller than auckland vs 4m in a space twice as large as the UK

both networks have around 900 sites to provide decent coverage over (empty) nz

the average site costs 1/2m incl land acquisition, resource management consents, lawyers and kit

1c/min is probably WAY under long run marginal cost

ha ha ha ha ha

How's this for a reasonable speculation?

$6 per "bestmate"..  Unlimited Voice, Video, MMS, and SMS.
Limited to 021 numbers (but gosh, I do hope they include landlines and my 'calling card' getaround can come ntrue)....
Limited to 5 bestmates.

Would be quite a "healthy" promotion in terms of Vodafone revenue.  All "intra-network", so they don't really have to worry about interconnection rates, etc.

**On another note**...  Haha, it'll be quite funny in the future, when you can tell your friends.. "Sorry mate, you're not good enough to be worth my $6."

Just to make the rumors worse, I have heard from a number of people saying that you pair up with 5 mates, pay $4 each and you get 1000credits to share between you , so either 200 txts, 200pxts, 200credits of calling etc.

This sounds like something nice and easy to look after on a billing system NOT!!!!

I have no idea what bestmate but this sounds out of this world

Haha! Same reaction as me, I think it may work though. With credits, it will be like a ride at the theme park. 1 credit = 1 txt, 3 credits = 1 minute call etc. Might work out, if the rumour is true ;).

These rumors are certainly entertaining I must say.... almost like macrumors pending an Apple conference.

I think they should have gone to on account customers first. Firstly because On Account have a much higher ARPU, so should be the ones rewarded with good promotions. Second of all, its a good way to move a whole bunch of people to On Account.

So... just reading people saying telecom doing $6 text/calls to one best mate being ludicrous but according to this link I stole from MF's post in another thread: http://www.ibiblio.org/ahkitj/diaries/tph/archives/000509.html that ludicrous may actually come true in a couple of days...

It's all just so exciting isn't it. such anticipation!
