In case you have not seen the ads, today is test day. From past experience, it normally occurs during an ad break during the news

No vibration on phone. Nothing on screen (my iOS scheduled alerts were on screen). Only reason I knew it happened was I saw it on my garmin watch

Wife had her phone on silent l, I could hear it vibrate. But no sound. When I scroll my notifications I can see it there.

28 page thread a few years old and were going to do this all over again?

It's not without it's quirks. YMMV

That goes for everyone.

Depending on maker/device if it adheres to blasting you. Allowing silence, flashing light, or even shutting up when you hit a button like on the OPPOs here.

If you think the response needs to be better. Or experienced something you think needs mention/addressing - There is a feedback form.

Was a very quiet notification compared to previous ones. I haven't changed sound settings (that I'm aware of).

iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 16.4.1.

Had the phone right next to me, and the buzzing from the phone was almost louder than the audio.

Yetti92:

I wonder if Alerts still work over WoWIFI as it's not technically receiving a signal from a traditional cell site that the alerts would be pushed out from in an area that required it.

Yes. Both the real one a couple of weeks ago and the test one just now came through on my Skinny-over-Wi-Fi connection.

Wife's iPhone was on silent, it vibrated but made no noise.

Also given we're now about to enter an age of using Satellite to boost mobile coverage to 100%, will the alert system work over that?

They recently introduced this system in the UK and I was astonished at the resistance to it found it BTL comments throughout the MSM.

I am no fan of government intrusion or mission creep but this seems like a genuinely useful thing and I really struggled to understand the tin foil hat rage that resulted.

Alert worked as normal.

Tip (for Samsung phones at least), if you want to mute the blaring alarm, but to read the message (without digging through menu's), is to hit the volume down key, rather than the OK button.

I am now up to 13 Emergency alerts so far in 2023... (1 NZ test, 4 Auckland weather / flood alerts, and 8 alerts from a short holiday in Korea (a combination of air quality warnings & mild earthquakes). Generally, feel this system is overused, and question the need for tests in that light.

I didn’t feel the vibration on mine, but guess it did. So did not see message on screen until later.

Had Apple Watch on and nothing on that, yet phone calls and text messages go to watch.

Not overriding silent mode seems a bug to me.

On an iPhone, how do you see the full message? I get the notification on the lock screen but when I click on the message to open it, it only shows a portion of the message and I can't scroll down to read the rest of it.

That's interesting. It came through fine on my Apple Watch.
