I've got both 2Talk and VFX lines for home. I have put my 2Talk line onto the plus beta and it works fine for making G722 HD voice calls to .

I have tried to set up both sides so that I can make HD voice calls between them, with no luck. I have tried a few different softphone clients, and on the 2Talk side they work fine. But on the VFX side, if I select G.722 I can't make outgoing calls to anywhere at all.

Am I barking up the wrong tree by thinking I can get this going?

One reason for this you atr presenting a single coded only G722, your call to an 0800 number will fail as it lives in the PSTN, G722 is not available via standard PSTN services.

The second calls to the xxxx533 number is basically the same , these calls get handed to the parent provider of 2talk and they return only G711 codecs so appears they are not handling or supporting G722, but because you have only one codec choice the calls will have an issue if G722 is not supported by the far end, you should add other codecs

Must help, having access to all the logs ;-) I 'get' why my call to the 0800 number didn't work. That was my control test.

This is the bit I don't get. I've just had a bit more of a play and both lines are working with G722 ok. Both can call wbdemo@conf.zipdx.com in wideband.

I'm starting to think that for whatever reason, either 2Talk or VFX just can't play ball together. So unless there are any other suggestions I'm just going to forget about the pipe dream that is G722.

You do realise G.722 between providers will only work if they're IP peering voice traffic?

The vast majority of voice traffic still interconnects via traditional methods, so G.711 is the best that is supported.

Yes it is, helps us to help you :)

The reason the inbound call didn't work is that the codec preference for the codes was G729 first choice and there is no G722 option

We do peer but appears that the carrier that is supplying interconnect for 2Talk (guess who) is not supporting G722, it is not returned in the SDP 200Ok for outbound calls to them even though it is listed as ist preference , it is not listed at all in the codec list in the invite when it originates from them.. we fully support G722 but appears someone else is not.

That pretty much seals their fate for me being an ongoing customer of theirs.
