I cannot find any discussion on Google Voice on this forum, particularly in connection with an Obi110.
I assume it doesn't exist in NZ.
Is anyone familiar with it?

Too many limitations eg: Can only activate an account if you are in the US (or use US proxy/vpn), can only get a local US number not local NZ number/can't port your NZ number, can't call emergency services etc

And even if you install Google Voice on an unlocked/rooted device you can only send SMS to US numbers.

Google Voice is US only, that's why.

Yea fairly limiting like others have mentioned. We can get fairly cheap international through other providers anyway. Those Obi ATAs are a bit average too. Good idea but in practice not that useful.
