No,  I cannot use port 50600 as the Thomson ST2030s only support ports 1025~49151.

chevrolux: Orcon need to get you off LLU gear and on to Chorus gear.

Been there, done that.

I complained about the speed, they said they would do something about it, no change in price. The line was cabinetised, and I was given a monthly credit to keep the billing amount the same.

First month, okay.
Second bill, okay.
Third bill, no credit. Sent email, no response.
Fourth bill, no credit, sent immediate email disputing the account and telling them not to charge my credit card, they did anyway - for the full amount.

Then I found out that other people on Orcon couldn't call us - said our number was disconnected. But everyone not on Orcon could call in.
Lodged a fault.
Told it was fixed (after a couple of weeks). It wasn't.
Tried again and again. Quite funny, because even Orcon support couldn't call us!
Negotiated a release from the 30 days notice and switched provider.
Orcon customers still couldn't call us. Eventually had to ask Orcon to make sure they had switched us over to the new provider. They finally deleted something in their routing and Orcon customers could call us.
Then needed to argue about the bill for the 30 days notice period!

Oh, and about the cabinetisation credit? Apparently at the time they were telling me it would be applied, they were telling all other cabinetised customers that the credit was being discontinued.  They forget to tell me though. Seems they gave me an @ orcon email address and sent all responses to that. Not that I had access to the mailbox, and never mind that I had specified my email address in the preferred contact....

This was during 2011 to 2012. And I have just seen a recent complaint on TV about someone on Orcon having problems with other Orcon customers calling them and Orcon not knowing anything!

A postscript about the Orcon Genius (sic),  the voip phone "thingie" is pathetic,  firstly I cannot speak on it for more than about 10-12 minutes before it drops the call (every time!!), the call quality is usually appalling (and I'm quite accepting of the fact that VOIP can't be expected to be as reliable, quality wise as you might expect with PSTN).

The buttons on the handset don't usually register your key-press, so trying to use that to dial a number or even retrieve voicemail is nigh on impossible.

I gave up on that a long time ago, I tell everyone not to use that number,  instead I rely my ultra reliable 2Talk service or my cell phone.

And yes,  of course I complained about it but never got any action Cry  other than some stupid suggestions such as "oh you have it too close to the fridge" (it's about 1.5 metres from the fridge) or "it needs to be on it's own power circuit" or "it's too close to your computer", "the telephone cable from your Genius to the wall socket is too long" (yeah right, I'm using the Orcon supplied cable) etc etc

Waiting for a comment from maverik in regards to that...

It does amaze me that Orcon still has customers. The amount of people moaning about them on here is quite amazing. I guess the other side of that is people tend not to say 'my isp is awesome'.
