So I've got asterisk and the spa3102 PSTN working well together. Outoging phone calls from an asterisk extension go out through the SPA3102 PSTN line to telecom, and incoming calls from Telecom through the SPA3102 PSNT go to the asterisk extensions. Hangups and disconnects work fine.

But that voicemail! If the incoming telecom PSTN caller hangs up before voicemail engages, the call gets disconnected fine. But once voicemail kicks in... it hangs on to the line for at least 45 seconds after the caller hanges up. The SPA3102 PSTN line stays "offhook" for the duration. Can anyone shed some light on what may be the problem? I've googled and googled this but can't pinpoint the problem.

You need to have 'Clear forward & Answer Reversal' added to your line.

This is only an option on business lines. Last time I tried to get that added to a residential account they wouldn't do it. I am pretty sure that is the case with any provider and not just Telecom too.

Yeah... I did also try asking Telecom and they wouldn't do it. I used to use DAHDI and a TDM400 card and that seemed to work pretty well for voicemail disconnect. I'd maybe hear three "beeps" before it would disconnect the line. Can't seem to get to do the SPA3102 to do that.

You can try adjusting the PSTN long silence detection (which is what it'll be using now) but will run the risk of call disconnects of legitimate calls.

I tried various PSTN silence detect settings, but they either diddn't disconnect the call or disconnected too aggressively.... but then SUCCESS.

Changing the Disconnect Tone setting on the SPA3102 to 425@-30,425@-30;2(.25/.25/.25/.25) as per the middle of this thread http://forum.voxilla.com/threads/disconnect-tone-tweaking-solution.2780/ works great. I previously had 400@-15;*5(.25/.25/1+2) which didn't work.

Further to my previous reply where I found that having 425@-30,425@-30;2(.25/.25/.25/.25) as the disconnect tone works for proper voicemail disconnect, I also found that 400@-30,400@-30;2(0.25/0.25/1+2) (from http://www.3amsystems.com/World_Tone_Database?q=New_Zealand,Disconnect_tone,Sipura) works. Further reading seems to indicate that the frequency needs to be specified twice, so I then tried 400@-15,400@-15;*5(.25/.25/1+2) (modifying sbiddle's original recommendation) and that one now works as well.

Although all three work (and I'm happy that voicemail disconnect works for me now), I don't really understand what each of these different settings actually mean, and which one I should really use as the Telecom "standard" disconnect tone.

I think that all three work because they basically follow about the same frequency (400 or 425) and on and off durations (0.25 seconds). 425 is close enough to 400 as I read somewhere that the spa3102 will take into consideration a 10% variance in the frequency. Anyone have any different views on how this works?
