Hi

I have Skype for Business installed as part of Office 365 Business Premium.

I want to be able to call, and be called by, PSTN phones.

It appears that this feature is only available in the US at the moment.

Does anyone know when (or if) this will ever come to NZ? I assume a local NZ telco needs to partner with MS before it can be offered.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure this launched last year.

Microsoft don't need to partner with anybody - they already own Skype so have access to numbers already.

I believe in NZ it requires some on prem hardware to connect to your existing lines. - For the moment anyway

At the moment in NZ you require an on-premise Skype for business server to hook a SIP trunk up to. I believe there are a couple of vendors offering a hosted solution (Lexel I think is one such provider)

Cloud PSTN is coming later this year or more likely next year with both Spark and Vodafone.  Right now you need an on-premise server with a voice gateway of some kind.  We use Sonus.

Thanks for the replies. I thought that you needed access to an on-premise server to get this working in the interim until cloud PSTN functionality arrives, so thanks for confirming.

I'll investigate the possibility of using a third party to provide this service in the interim. We don't want on-premise hardware, as this was part of the driver toward using O365 in the first place.

Cheers

Hi, I would recommend talking with hosted Skype for Business services incl;uding folks like Lexel and MHA, also check out the new Cloud PBX capability.

We do not yet have a timeframe for release of voice/PSTN services in NZ.

Thanks. I assume by "we" you mean Microsoft. I won't hold my breath for being able to do what I want directly through our current O365 configuration and will investigate those who might be able to provide a hosted solution. It's only one machine that I want the functionality for at the moment (a conference room PC).

Hi,
Thought I would jump in on this as my company is looking for a new way of using our phones and office communication setup

I was recently given http://nz.mitel.com/ a demo by and was very impressed. Pretty much had everything I was after.

I am wondering though what other VOIP / SIP services there are out there.

Key points I am after are

  • No more desk phones. Just want mobile and computer based program (softfone)
  • Hosted in NZ - either in my own data center with my IT support or the companies own site.
  • Group calling
  • iPhone and Android Apps.
  • Office Presence system. (to see who is at work)
  • Integration with outlook and calendar system
  • presentation / screen share ability
  • ideally a presence in New Zealand.

Any recommendations or experiences would be great.

Cheers

Hi there, you dont say what size business you are, if you are larger than a small business, then It is worth checking out Skype for Business, togetther with Office365, which includes the features you are looking for and can now run with our Cloud PBZ service. There is still a requirement for onpremise or hosted S4B server for the SIP/PSTN termination.

I'd highly recommend a conversation with Digital Island - if you want a good sales contact please send me a PM.

Disclaimer: not affiliated at all but have recently seen a demo.

HI

Cheers for the info.

Sorry - business is about 60 users - both on iphones and android.

5 offices around the country.
Really looking for all services off site though. We already have a PABX on site but looking at the over disaster recovery plan this is an issue.

Cheers.
