I have noticed when I call the USA I get a NZ calling tone and not the USA Calling tone this can be annoying as the other day I was trying to call a number there and it would reing for about a minute then disconnect this happened several times. I later discovered that number was disconnected if i had been getting the USA tones I would have discovered immediately that number was disconnected. Is there a way to change this in your setting I have not been able to finfd it.

Its the network that sends back a code, which determines what tones will be played to you by the device you are using.

You will probably need to call 2talk and let them know the number you were having trouble with to get anywere.

With VoIP, tones are determined by your device. Your device simply gets sent the appropriate status; e.g. ring, busy, unattainable etc. Your device then decides what to do with this. Back in the old PSTN days, you'd be sent back far-end ringing etc. This is just not cool in the VoIP world sending back all that extra audio, when your device is smart enough to just be told what the status is.

Are you sure Far end ringing tone is generated by your device. I have 2 VOIP accounts on the same device HG659 and have also tried both lines on a PAP2T both with same result I would dial 001 212 555 0100 - a totally fictious unlikely to be ever used number when dialing through 2talk i get a NZ far end ringing tone if dialed through another VOIP provider a get the disconnected / number unobtainable tone. anyone here who have 2talk can try this number if you want ( or other voip user )you get about 1 minute of ringing then disconnects like any other number dialed through 2talk that is not answered within a specified time.

Sorry, correction - I had overseas calling restricted. Tried again and rings until timeout. Ring is generated at my end, not far end, so get NZ ringing tone, then "503 Service Unavailable" after 1min. So perhaps 2talk is not receiving / sending correct SIP status.

So does the VOIP Provider send your device the type of far end ring signal it should generate as when I program my device with another voip provider ( changing just sip.xxx.xx.xx and username and password ) I do indeed get the usa far end ringing tones or message saying the number you have dialed can not be completed  . . . as per the normal USA system.

I think you need to look and see if you get a 180 ringing or 183 session progress.
180 comes from the proxy and tells your device to your device to generate the ring-back tone.
Whereas 183 is, as it's named, used to convey "session progress" and can send extra stuff (in the SDP) like the proper regional ring-back tone.

180's are what confuses people when their phone starts ringing and then all of a sudden stops.
