That's most likely because no one at 2Talk ever bothered to reply to peoples problems..

They did try but they had limited resources.
In 2talks defense it was suppose to be a user forum and not
official support.

I have to admit I did not know IAX2 was still in beta, I only use it because of the problem with sip on Asterisk when the internet goes down you lose all your sip extensions as well making any PSTN failover useless.

official support.

Only if you have your box configured poorly. This bug isn't hard to work around.

The forums were always advertised as 'Community Forums' and not a support channel. Many people did not get this and expected 2talk staff to answer support questions on the Community Forums instead of logging tickets, calling our support number or emailing support. This was one reason why the forums have been taken down for now as it wasn't being used as we had anticipated as a community forum where users of 2talk could share experiences and advice with each other.

The other reason why the forums were taken down was due to security concerns around the software being used and several vulnerabilities in the code. So we were unhappy about these ongoing security issues related to the forum software.

We may resurrect the forums at some stage but it will likely be in a different format than previously.

I have tried this particular fix and it did not work, whether I screwed something up I don't know, perhaps I'll give it another go, the thing that I have found that works the best is disable the sip trunks but that is not always the best solution if your not there.

You could also try adding entries to your /etc/hosts file for those DNS entries that Asterisk requires (e.g. 2talk.co.nz) then a DNS query should not be required out to the Internet causing Asterisk to hang during an Internet outage. In fact I know many people who disable DNS altogether on their Asterisk systems because of this issue and manage their host entries manually. Not a perfect solution but should work for you.

I've deployed DNSMasq in numerous setups and this works perfectly. One other thing is that you should always use IP entries in the registations and/or use the hosts file for lookups as explained above, but I assume people do that with Asterisk setups anyway since the issues are so well known.

I have always tried to avoid using IP addresses for registration as I presume 2talk use there
DNS servers for load balancing and redundancy, but yes I could try that.
I have confess I am a bit of a Linux noob, so did not know about that etc/host file thing, definitely look into doing that.
You got to wonder why Digium won't fix this sip bug, it just very annoying. Maybe they don't see it as a bug?
