Skillie: Hi Gary

Just spoke to a CSR who informed me that TCL can't upgrade my service to the new 100G plan in the near future, because there are no new modems available! Frown

Hi Skillie. If you like, email me your contact details and I'll have someone contact you and get this arranged, including a day and time for the install.

Cheers, Gary

Teeps: Any idea of how long we can expect? I signed up Tuesday afternoon using the upgrade path you just suggested but apart from receiving an email just after placing the upgrade I've heard nothing!

As an update to my own post, just had a call from TC and install is arranged for the afternoon of 1st May.

Looks like aprox 6-8 working days lead time.

I ordered morning of 17/04, install date is 26/04 (6 working days)
You ordered afternoon of 18/04, install date is 01/05 (8 working days)

DonGould: Gary,

Do you get to keep your IP number, or do you get a new IP with the change of modem?

D

Hi Don. The IP stays the same.

Cheers, Gary

Hi guys

An update on my earlier post. I ordered this service via the my profile page on the evening of the 17th, I made a follow up call  to TC and was no further forward. I gave Gary a pm and this was quickly followed up by a call from TC to arrange a suitable time for install of new modem, I got lucky and install arranged for 24th April in the morning. The next available date was 2nd May. A big thanks to Gary for hurrying this process through.

Hi everyone - the team have asked that, if you are ordering the 100Mbps service, to please provide a daytime contact number so we can call and arrange the modem install. We haven't been able to get hold of some people and we want to make sure that we can get the arrangements sorted for you as quickly and as hassle-free as possible.

Cheers, Gary

SilverwolfNZ: @Telstra Clear

I upgraded via the call center earlier on and the lady didn't inform me of needing a new modem, how do I know if it will be sent out or not?

Hi Silverwolf, you will be contacted and a time arranged for a technician to visit and install the new modem and ensure that your computer settings are correct for the increased speed.

Hope this helps, Gary

I rang them the next day and the CSR didn't seem to know what I was talking about regarding a new modem, but said I'd be contacted the next day by someone on my cellphone...  Still haven't had a call regarding modem install.

Regards,

Joshua

Oh great, I was thinking about upgrading to the 90GB plan, but not any more I guess. To get 90GB now, from the 60GB plan, would cost $120.20, which is even more expensive than the 100/10 100GB plan is. That's compared to the $95.95 it was previously. I don't want to pay that much for 90GB (or $115.95 for only 100GB). Thanks TelstraClear for ensuring you don't get more money from me!

It's really mind blowing that the overage prices (2GB for $2.95) still haven't changed after all these years. They're exactly the same as they were in April 2006 (that's 6 years ago): http://web.archive.org/web/20060405032818/http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/products-res/internet/highspeed/

Think about that. The cost of additional data (that TelstraClear uses as a selling point to this day ("We won't slow you down when you reach the end of your data usage")) has not changed in 6 years. TelstraClear didn't even exist in its current form (it was TelstraSaturn) just over 4 years before that.

http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/?action=search&exc=1&state=all&class=0&type=res&cost=0&pre=100000&conntype=4&speed=12288&upspeed=2048&contract=99&needhw=yes&upfront=999999

Ok, I now have to confess... the value v's .au does seem to be getting there!

http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/isp-1-1/telstra-bigpond-cable.htm?p=24663

It does seem that .au is offering 5, 50, 200 and 500Gb options but the pricing doesn't seem to be all that different by the time you consider exchange rates.

The 500Gb plan does seem to deliver some more value than we're still getting, but even I have to agree that it's getting better, though still needs more work.

Nice to see that we're getting a decent upload speed at 10mbit though. I'd still like to know why there aren't 50/50 plans. I tend to doubt that my network is going to benefit fully from the 100mbit down and I'd still like to be able to push backups and video faster than 10mbit.

I'd love to hear the technical reasons for the 10mbit choice and why not faster?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCSIS#Speed_tables says it will do well over 100mbit up so should be able to match the UFB plans with 100/50.

Have to say not the greatest Call Centre experience....

The first operator took so long I ended up dropping back into the queue! When I finally got picked up again it was another 15mins while the operator figure out what I actually wanted.

I have however been successful and am booked for May 4 for my install.

Great call centre experience here. Got through in less then 2 minutes and install date is set for 3rd May. Then handed the phone to my workmate and he sorted his out as well.
