TwoSeven: You do realise it will be running windows 8.1....

Not sure what's the problem? I'm using Windows 8.1 on my laptop...

Yes, but are you actually using it (individual windows features) to do things, or are you mainly using other apps like office etc.  I often find people that tell me an OS works well sometimes really mean that their primary application of choice works well and they really don't use the OS.

Yes, this is what happens most of the times. And yes I am not using ANY of the "Modern UI apps"... Browser, Office, SQL Management, Visual Studio, Hamachi, (Hamachi, OpenVPN), Logmein client... The lsit of "non-Modern UI" applications goes on and on.

Roughly similar list and with Hyper-V.  On my wish list are a Kinect for windows sensor and a projector (looking at Asus B1M) - which would of course require an additional USB port - hopefully enough of a justification to purchase a dock when they are available.

Although I have installed some modern apps, I use the desktop ones if they are available (with the exception of Pacman).

I use a mix of metro and non-metro on my surface pro (with 8 or 8.1). The form factor makes a big difference though. I prefer to use metro ie while using a tablet. But not so much on the desktop. I've been also using virtual desktop connection a lot on my surface to connect to our home media server pc. The server is also running windows 8, and I like being able to use the touch UI apps on the server when I'm driving it with RDC.

It's kinda hard to strictly demarcate windows "features" and "other apps". Surely office is in some sense a windows feature. What about OneNote?

Also, I do like many of the windows 8 features a lot. For instance, improvements to many utilities such as task manager and file explorer.

Hi Nathan
Can you clarify when the 265GB model be available in NZ ?

I talked to JB Hi-Fi and they cannot give me a confirmed date. The guy from neol leeming advised me that it will not be available next Tuesday but it will arrive on the 14th of Nov.

I have the 1st generation Surface RT which I have upgraded to 8.1. It's hell of a lot better than it was 1 year ago when I imported one from US. My wife likes it a lot as it does her facebook, skype and web browsing.

I actually prefer my Lenovo X1 Carbon Touch (Ultrabook). I hope MS brings out a Surface Book or something similar with a nice sturdy keyboard attached.

I found the current Surface too big for me and personally I am still not sold on tablets. I have had a play with iPad Mini and Nexus 7. I really like the size. I am going to hold on buying the Surface 2 and instead buy the Surface Mini (very strong rumors of early 2014 launch).

But please Microsoft, make the Surface Book happen.

I guess the it's the 1st gen touch cover I have that is not strong enough to be put on my lap which is why I prefer my ultrabook with physical keyboard over it.

Microsoft has announced the Surface family will grow into multiple different sizes and form factors

the new Surface keyboards have carbon fibre inside them which make them significantly more stable when typing in your lap

Good to hear. Might have a play with the new covers on launch day here at one of the electronics stores. I got to play with generation 1 type cover and I really liked it over my touch cover. Touch cover is great when it's on a flat surface.

Oh glad I got that pre-order in. I think that'll be a popular model.

Which store did you order your 256G? I pre-order at Neol leeming as well but no news from them.
