After having probs with outlook the last couple of days regarding connector for Hotmail (fixed now I think), I noticed that the .pst files are in 2 different locations??

I know that 2007 put it in Appdata and 2010 puts it in Documents, I think

The user/doc .pst folder does have gmail, hotmail and my orcon main email folder in it, but the .pst folder in appdata only has gmail and hotmail in it.

I have deleted the outlook folder completely serveral times in the app/data area, but when I open outlook again its back.

The orcon is POP, hotmail is MAPI and gmail is IMAP

I back up my main.pst folder in user/documents regularly, but do I have to back up this other one as well??

From memory because you are using IMAP you will always get multiple PST files - there will be one for each account. You can change the location of the IMAP pst file so that it is in the same location as the POP one.

In outlook, only POP allows you to have multiple accounts per PST file.

Also, I think you cant permanently remove the PST file for IMAP as this is required to store email that you have downloaded from the server. I suspect it will be re-created as soon as a check for email is performed.

Note: if you delete the POP pst file, you will lose any email inside it - so it is worthwhile from time to time backing that up. I would back up the gmail one.

Yeah its normal
I like to manually move them to the documents folder.

One thing that annoys me is that the archive files will still be created in appdata while a pst will be in mydocs\outlookfiles
Which i think is stupid because when you are backing up your PST's you need to dig down into appdata to find the archives.
