Hi I notice there is a Skydrive icon on the far right of my taskbar.

It sometimes says checking for changes, for a long long time.

Thing is I have nothing to sync, I have even just disabled file syncing (I thought I disabled that from the start but it resurrected itself over time).

Do people get rid of it? If so how (there is nothing to "uninstall")

Involuntary autocorrect in operation on mobile device. Apologies in advance.

8 or 8.1?

It is built in to 8.1.

My laptop isn't sleeping. I wonder if it's because skydrive is checking for changes.

Of which there are none. Zero. I don't use skydrive.

When I use an unmetered connection, I get a warning displayed on the taskbar icon "SkyDrive updates are disabled for metered connections".  It only displays when I use an unmetered connection and not when I use a metered connection (in which I have SkyDrive disabled because it chews through data on the mobile data cap).

What is annoying is the version that came with Windows Essentials worked really well and allowed one to change the location of ones sync folders as well as to allow manual syncs - however, this useful functionality has been removed in the version for Windows 8.1.
