joker97: how do I know if I'm an insider?

If you are running Insider Previews obtained from MS you would have signed up.

timmmay: That's a fairly poor experience for people who've been running Windows 10 preview for months. Install W7 then SP1, then probably have to download GB of W10 for each PC.

Microsoft doesn't seem to have thought this one through all that much.

Already an insider, signed up months ago to get W10.

Just stick on Insider flights up til RTM :)

please don't think we are stupid and have not thought things thru

This is a new era for Windows, we care deeply about you as a Windows customer and your end-to-end experience

This is a new modern version of Windows designed for this Mobile first, Cloud First world

As mentioned several time here on GZ you will be looked after if you stick on Windows Insider :)

I can't stay up to date, Windows Update won't install the new releases - I'm still on 9926. I don't want to have to reinstall a new beta now, then reinstall again for RTM.

I don't think Microsoft is stupid, clearly a lot of very bright people who work very hard.

Go to insider.windows.com and it will let you download the latest ISO of the Windows Insider Slow ring 10130

Then you can run setup.exe from inside your 9926

Then run WU to get to 10159

then you'll be on path to RTM which will jump you off WI

The latest ISO is an iso file, you've said run setup.exe. Does it get mounted as a disk somehow? Would it then upgrade me, or would it be a fresh install? Once it's up to date will that upgrade straight to RTM? I'd rather have a fresh install when it comes out at RTM, it's gotten pretty quirky lately - I can't save files from the internet to my PC reliably, the compute freezes.

If you double click on an ISO it gets mounted as if it was a DVD. You can then run setup. If that upgrade does not work then you will have to wipe and install and it is up to you if it is worth doing now or not. Build 10159 looks nice and must be very close to an RTM build.

Thanks, interesting. I might take an image and give it a go.

Wondering if this build (10159) is the first time that peer-to-peer serving of updates has been fully active. My upload is being hammered sending data to MS (and google, oddly) servers around the world at the moment :)

The latest insider builds 10158 and 10159 released this week are looking good, and not detailed issues.

Quick question. How many computers can you install the tech preview on under one Microsoft account?

What is the point of MS releasing 3 BUILDS in 1 WEEK? Who would have time to install 3? Let alone test and provide quality feedback on them?

builds come out every week day

so normally at least 5 a week

these ones we are releasing are all very high quality

I'm not sure why it is taking you so much time to install them.
My PC downloads and installs them around 3AM every night, and I logon to my PC when I getup about 530AM and its there

at this point people are using Windows 10 as their daily driver so are providing feedback on if we fixed things they told us about

You don't need to use a Microsoft Account with tech preview

Just wondering how many computers it can be installed on? I have it running on an old laptop under my Microsoft account, and its synced web history etc with my 8.1 machine. I rebuilt another old PC yesterday, and have installed the 10130 preview on it just to see how it would cope, but it hasn't synced anything across from my MS account. So was wondering if there was a one machine limit per MS account, if a MS account is used. I also can't update to 10159, even though I have set it to Fast ring.  Just looking at options for the computer. Get a windows 10 licence later, install Vista (which I have a licence for) or put a Linux distro on it.
