Why is my win 7 of 5 years slow, laggy, stutters, random errors,

After uninstalling every single thing, checking no malware through out the years, no background hidden stuff ... Would win 10 upgrade still be recommended?

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

Wipe and reinstall would probably help that. 5 year is a very old install.

I'm having some minor data corruption issues with W10, unsure if it's hardware or software. Memtest, processor, and prime95 tests are fine. I'll reinstall W7 next week to see if I can work it out.

I use Win10 as my daily driver, aside from a few tiny issues that have been reported to M$ via channels I have had no issues

Haven't heard of anyone else so probably me. Think I may build a super micro workstation with Xeon and ecc.

  1. chkdsk
  2. disk clean
  3. reg clean
  4. defrag (with any other program other than windows defrag)
  5. reboot

also could be antivirus program causing lag and stutters which do you use

Pretty sure now it's my hardware or some weird issue - more details on this thread.

@ joker97

I installed the preview on my parents old dual core pentium PC. PC was running Vista and based on noise and speed one would have assumed hardware failure was imminent, (we are talking quite a few minutes to even boot up, let alone any form of productivity once going)) after installing W10 it is a completely different machine, I doubt they will even believe it is the same computer, i have played around with it for a few hours and everything seems to work as it should, I didn't need to go looking for any drivers etc

TBH, i only very recently did a clean reinstall of W7 on our main family computer and I am considering redoing it on W10 as it really is good

Yes, just to make sure it was clean i reformatted the HDD when given the option during install, there was years of crud on the PC, I had tried to clean it previously but nothing ultimately helped mind you it is a Dell and full of Dell bloat, tbh I was expecting the PC's issues to be hardware related not software, thankfully it looks like i'm wrong!!

My biggest challenge will be bringing a couple of pensioners up to speed with Microsoft's latest offerings!!

one thing that MIGHT catch them out is, if any site would be incompatible with something, chances are, it will be IE11. maybe get them to use chrome or mozilla or something.
