Usually Acronyms do not contain the word that is being spelt :)

But in all seriousness tho.. I quite like "Bing"...  short and sweet as Nathan said.

Not sure why, but it annoys me no end :) Plus in my experience, I've never found better results with Bing than Google.

Dreal: I'm disappointed Cortana won't be working for awhile. I'm generally very keen for windows 10, and whilst I think things like siri are dull, it looked like cortana was miles ahead - and also the only text/voice assistant on a desktop platform/

Yes, it should be an opt-in system rather than a geoblock, especially considering both their main competitors (Siri and Google) are available here. I have been considering swapping my PC to US region because I have no purchased software from the store, so nothing to lose.

it is because Bing is not launched here.  Its not just the lack of your accent.

I'm a Scot living in New Zealand, when they finally launch it here it still won't understand me. If you can't understand that then please refer to the following educational video about the plight of my fellow countrymen :)

Maybe Nathan can comment, but is it anything to do with Bing not being officially released here (re search results)?

And yet, I can Bing things. And there are things Cortana can do that have nothing to do with search engines.

You can do some pretty trivial things. Like Google Now, it's utility comes in being able to work with your personal data (emails, calendar entries etc), time and locale. If Bing doesn't have a database of local public transport, real time traffic, weather, movies, restaurants, events etc it becomes pretty limited. Toggling Bluetooth using Cortana get's old pretty quick.

for a start use Bing US not Bing NZ (top right hand corner of bing.com)

Bing is not launched here in NZ so the results are poorer compared to Bing US

Forgive me for asking but what is the Cortana that is not yet here compared to what I now have in Win10 ?

My 7 year old found Cortana or whatever the voice assistant is in our Win10 to be much entertainment last night, e.g. it singing and providing jokes

How do I get it open applications and other commands as opposed to simply doing a bing search ?

Well for me, opening a music playlist, putting on a movie, or toggling bluetooth are probably things I would do as frequently as using data. I like handsfree sometimes. It's handy.
