xlinknz: 1. How do I get the favourites bar to show in Edge ?

"more actions" (three little dots at top right) > "settings"  - second from top of list is option to turn on "show the favorites [sic] bar"

That sounds like something to provide feedback to MS in the feedback tool with....

It's worth pointing that out too, actually. If there are any concerns or issues you have, I'd strongly recommend posting them back. I've been involved in early adopter, alpha and beta testing of Microsoft products for over a decade and I can tell you that they really DO take feedback into account.

Ok - so it wasn't just me with Netflix/Edge apparent issue.  Wasn't every 1/2 hour for me though, twice in about 3 hours.
It's the kind of issue which might be disregarded, as it could be symptomatic of a bandwidth/connection issue.  I'm pretty sure it wasn't for me, but have no proof.
Chrome will only give you 720p on Netflix.  You need IE on win 8.1 or better or Edge to get 1080p.

Interesting...so what happens when you use IE on Win 10 then, as opposed to Edge?

I had an issue with upgrading to Windows 10. My network connections folder was empty, and was unable to connect to any networks.

Turns out that if you have the Cisco VPN Client installed when you upgrade, this will cause issues.

Rolled back to Windows 8.1, and have uninstalled the client. Attempting reinstall now!

Thank you for that smile

I also notice I now often get in Edge 'web site x is not responding' and would you like to recover
[looks like Edge uses more resources...?]

I do not get this in Opera 30.0

Closed my eyes, gritted my teeth and hit 'install'.  I was a bit worried but so far the W10 install has worked OK, and it's definitely snappier.  Things that other people reported as not working are fine (I have sub-folders in Windows mail, and minimising youtube music vids in Chrome or Edge doesn't stop them running).
I was using ViStart in Windows 8.1 to get a W7 style start menu and it worked, within limits.  For example, in W7 I could add folders and re-arrange program items from within the start menu, and when it didn't want to co-operate I'd switch to the start menu in explorer and changes I made there were reflected in the start menu.  This meant that all my programs were logically organised in a way I expected and understood.  Y'know, logical stuff like all games and game-related stuff under one start menu folder.  Tried this on W8 and what a (swear word starting with F) mess!

Hoping for better editing abilities in W10 but so far, not looking good.  In 'Taskbar and Start Menu Properties' the Start Menu tab is missing, prompting more uncouth language.  I suppose it's a bit soon to be asking but has anyone else seen this problem, or have any suggestions?

solaybro: How can I make the icons in the taskbar bigger?

Although the start menu in Windows 10 is better than in Windows 8, I still don't like it.
I use StartIsBack software to create a customizable "Windows 7"-like menu.
Excellent, cheap software.
One option under "Appearance"  is "Use larger taskbar icons".

(I use this option because I use 4k screens, and the default icons look tiny.)

no need to reinstall

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Open an administrative Command Prompt window.
  2. Run the following commands:

    reg delete HKCR\CLSID\{988248f3-a1ad-49bf-9170-676cbbc36ba3} /va /f

    netcfg -v -u dni_dne

Tinshed: I understand that nowadays it is all about the value-exchange and how much of your privacy you are willing to give up in order to get value in return.  I am more than happy with that exchange in say Facebook, Twitter or Instagram but I do think Windows is offering less and less in return for a higher exchange of privacy.  Some of the default privacy-related settings in Windows 10 are pretty aggressive in sending data to Microsoft.  I imagine 80% of consumer users won't even know how to change these or even know about them.

Time to see if I can completely live without Windows!

Good luck finding a commercial OS that does not report on any manner.

I have submitted the Outlook not opening URLs with correct anchor tag in Chrome using the feedback tool.

It's one of those things I am not hopeful will be sorted. Worked fine until now... And starting to get annoying when I click the links to open replies on Geekzone threads.

I have now updated 4 machines to Windows 10. Only one via the offer from Windows (a desktop), the other 3 via the downloaded USB. All have gone well so far.

What I did find interesting was on two of my machines I have an older Nvidia GeForce 8400 graphics card. There are no Windows 10 drivers for the card and when Windows finally reboots, it comes up in an ugly 1024x768 mode on my 1029 HD monitor. Initially I tried downloading the GeForce drivers for Windows 8.1 but the installation program says no compatible hardware.

Then Windows wanted a reboot following an Update and how when I choose Display Settings/Advanced 1920x1080 is not a choice. And the Nvidia Control Panel is now installed. I guess while Nividia might not have drivers on their site, they gave something to Microsoft to distribute via an update

Even more interesting there is now support for my Adaptec AIC-7870 SCSI controller (emulated) which mean I can access my SCSI scanners. That is nice.
