Warning!

I bricked my compute stick by doing an online update to Win 10 from 8.1 when the stick told me it was all ready.  Now all I can get into is the BIOS, and that doesn't help any.  I shall return it, and stay with 8.1 for the foreseeable.

It turns out that many ICS users have had the same problem -- have a look at the Intel website, - community support - Compute stick.  There may be a bit of a storm brewing there, and no clear answers as yet.

Were I you, I'd avoid doing any OS upgrade on the ICS until things clear a bit.  If you must upgrade, be sure to install the latest BIOS, as the upgrade will fail (Intel says) with older BIOSes.  Yes, I did.

These were quite possibly going to be the coolest budget computing product of 2015 and it just seem to be fail after fail :(

Have you managed to recover the OS on the compute stick - I don't know enough about them, but does it have a recovery partition?

TwoSeven:  Probably, yes, but it isn't accessible anymore - BIOS offers this, but selecting it crashes out
Wade: yes, and it really worked well on 8.1 (after an update -- originally wouldn't run any windows 10 apps!). I suspect that this original problem and the update to fix it may have been the root cause of the Win10 update fail.
Can't waste any more time on it -- back it goes.

I have upgraded 6 or 7 of these to windows 10 with no problems.

My ICS had already died before July 29, so I returned it.
It wasn't loading 8.1 anymore, and F2 to restore from recovery partition was unresponsive.
I got the replacement last week and updated to Win10 straight away.
Before I saw your warning.
But its OK, I'm typing from it now.
It was on BIOS ver 18 at the time.
I've just updated to ver 25.
The Wifi is a bit buggy, less so with Bluetooth turned off.
But otherwise it runs fine.

Life is too short to remove USB safely.

There might be an option to boot to a usb drive plugged into it, you might be able to do a recovery that way, or complete the install.  Not sure about entering the license key bit though.
