Have been trialling Office2016 for a while now.  Overall, doesn't seem like big changes but there's some (what I perceived to be basic) functionality I really miss:

  • right click on outlook icon in the start bar and create new email/appointment etc
  • selecting attachments (feeling your pains @coffeebaron) and saving/moving to a different email
  • changes to how search worked - no longer using ""  have to use ()

My major bugbear is how OneDrive for business syncs, it's been getting better, but it keeps eating storage!

First one works fine for me as does "" in search! You on the latest release (16.0.4229.1024)? What OS?

Also we've just announced our next gen sync client, will release later this year, more here:

freitasm: Hmmm. I had no problem adding my Geekzone O365 account to Outlook 2016 on a fresh install... But when I tried adding my work O365 account it just stalled there during the discovery phase. Not sure why as it worked on Outlook 2013 and there's no error. Support tells me to wait a bit longer seeing my home laptop is not on the domain and this could change the way auto-discovery works.

Will try again during the weekend...

This is a problem with autodiscover I believe. Do you have an autodiscover DNS record for your GZ O365 account.

freitasm: The Geekzone account worked fine. The second account didn't.

Sorry I misread. Does IT have an autodiscover dns record?

Oh sweet jeezus! OneDrive for B overhaul! Yuss... made my day (seriously). When can we expect this to roll out.

I've just upped to 16.0.4229.1029 today.  This is on win7 pro x64.  When I was on the preview, the right click action didn't work on win10 or 7.
Proof!! Click to see full size  I even un-pinned/closed outlook then reopened to try this.
Just tried on my win10 machine with .1024 still on it, and the right click is same as above cry

Phew, so it seems the "" search is back!

Emm, gotta be an issue with moving from Preview builds to RTM. Try removing the launcher and re-pinning. Then maybe an office repair, or registry fix (check the web for Jump list fix). If you are on 365, then log a support request, its free! http://aka.ms/365support

ps. ODFB new sync will start rollout in Nov. We are running internally, its very good.

freitasm: Yep, just did a nslookup -q=srv autodiscover.[domain removed] and got a valid response.

You currently being moved from Singapore to OZ DC?
I would also check/validate with your .onmicrosoft domain as well.

I don't know. Didn't file a formal support request because a) Office 2016 is being deployed internally end of month and b) it was on my personal laptop.

Once 2016 is deployed internally I will try again.

So just did a full online repair.. right click still doesnt work for outlook, and now it doesn't work for excel/word etc (previously used to).  Also, I've gone back to .1024 and office tells me I'm up to date! weird...

Fun times... Microsoft are stumped at why this is happening... though it was resolved by a complete wipe of office data and then a reinstall... Online repair isn't good enough it seems!  No problem with doing it on the test machine, but on the proper work one with a few sharepoint libraries synced etc means I'll live with it till a rainy day.

freitasm: What is with Microsoft Office files (Word and Excel) not showing preview in Outlook emails because "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it"?

http://www.outlook-tips.net/tips/outlook-2016excel-files-wont-preview/

Didn't they catch this during the beta?
