Trying to upgrade a laptop to Windows 10....

It had Win 7 Pro installed, so I updated it all, and the Win 10 icon appeared, it eventually downloaded the files and I told it to install... all was fine until it started failing (stupid HP system) so I ended up trying to do the install via the media creation tool... that failed at the product key stage, wouldnt activate etc.

So I restored Win 7 Pro via the HP System Restore, updated WIndows completely, but now WIn 10 icon not showing.  Ended up running a fix tool from MS, and it tells me that this version of Windows is not eligible for Windows 10! WTF....

I NEED to get this system out the door on Monday but this is driving me crazy... got another one of these same laptops to do tomorrow as well, and probably hit the same issue :(

Any ideas ?

I had a pc fail via the update channel.

I used a USB drive with the update on and succeeded. Is this what you used?

When you install manually over windows 7, you can skip the product key can't you? I can't actually recall it asking for a product key except for a new install, where you skip it. But I recall you must first upgrade to windows 10 from inside windows 7, and make sure it is activated, before then doing a clean install of windows 10. I ahve upgraded about 5 pcs with it, and all except 1, I have done then gone back and done a clean install.
