Maybe you need a copy of this to prevent the upgrade.

On another note Microsoft should really give an option. I have a perfectly good Windows 7 PC that's supported for years to come and it's running Windows Media Center. I do not want to change to Windows 10 because Windows Media Center is not an option on that OS. There's no compelling reason for this PC to be changed to Windows 10.

This should be as easy as a switch in Windows Update, not all this work/trouble.

Microsoft is not looking after its users. Simple as that.

don't click install/reserve, it doesn't install by itself.

I haven't clicked install or reserve. But that icon was still there. Also the "doesn't install by itself" can change at anytime. I don't particularly trust Microsoft on this specific case.

Takes 30 seconds, if that, to create those registry keys.  But if you don't want to do that:

if you don't click install or reserve it won't install.  If you're worried about someone else clicking install or reserve, don't run as local admin run as standard user.

The Get Windows 10 icon is there because your machine is pointed to Windows Update.

The GRC guys Win10 app doesn't work properly as I showed in the screenshot.

I don't trust Microsoft's guidance on "How to manage Windows 10 notification and upgrade options" but I do trust a random app from the Internet that doesn't even work properly

Don't use that app from Steve Gibson, this one is much better:

I have concluded to myself (rightly or wrongly) the easiest way is to quit Windows.

joker97: I have concluded to myself (rightly or wrongly) the easiest way is to quit Windows.

I have tried that numerous times but Windows and MSFT are like giant tractor beams, you will try and try to get away but they always drag you back in.

Dramatic much?

You might not want Windows 10 and as you know it's dead simple to not have your PC upgrade to it

We genuinely get a significant number is support calls from customers asking "where is my free Windows 10 upgrade"

Why would a customer always be right when said customer is wrong?

Customer doesn't click install, customer doesn't get Windows 10

so you are telling me that the KB for the little icon in the task bar asking you about windows 10 doesn't comes pre ticked in windows update?

and after you have reserved your copy of windows 10, but choose not to update at the moment, that the windows 10 download doesn't appear and it too isn't pre ticked?
