I see that we should be able to get Cortana on the desktop, which might be useful.

However it seems to be disabled for NZ. Does anyone know when/if it will be brought to life?

Dunno if itll work, but could try setting your region to US etc like you do with Windows Phones to get it running.

my understanding is Cortana is linked to Bing, therefore Cortana will not be available to NZ until we get a NZ Bing version. I believe Bing for NZ is currently work in progress.

I recall seeing that the Aussie version of Cortana has been announced.

Just put a spring peg on your nose and you could probably use that!

I have cortana on my desktop.

Just set the region to US and it should work, UK will probably work too. Won't be terribly good for stuff in NZ, but for the general reminders and the like it will be just fine

Ok I will try that. Are there any other consequences of setting US?

It won't be much different to Siri then, which won't do half the things in NZ it does in the US.
