Hi All,

I've recently purchased a new PC for my semi-retired parents and shipped it down to their place in the South Island. I'm generally their computer support desk but as I've been busy lately they've had a guy come in and transfer all their data over from the old PC and get it all setup etc. They've also been convinced to have Windows 10 installed and they've struck some problems with the Google Chrome browser. Seems really odd, you click on the browser icon on the task bar and you get the spinning cursor indicating it's about to launch, but then nothing happens. Reinstalling Chrome doesn't work either, in fact the PC sometimes hangs when trying to download the Chrome installer.

I would have thought there would be no compatibility issues with Windows 10 and an extremely common browser such as Chrome.

Does anyone know of anything simple that could be the issue? I can't find a whole lot of detail on Google, so it doesn't seem to be a widespread issue. However, their computer guy has told them to uninstall it as he's seen other people with similar issues lately, and that Win 10 just doesn't play nicely with Chrome - which I'm struggling to comprehend.

I found some things to try here: and will report back.

But would be interested to hear if an GZ users have had any similar experiences.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Using Chrome (64bit) here with no issues whatsoever on a full updated Windows 10.

Peronally, I've never had any problems with Chrome on any of the Windows 10 PC/laptops I've used.

EDIT: Thinking on this further... Here's a few things you could try:

  1. Running it in Incognito mode (add --incognito to the target value in the shortcut)
  2. Running it in No Extension mode (add --disable-extensions)
  3. Uninstall Chrome and try install Canary instead and see if that works (Canary is almost an alpha version of Chrome).

Does Chrome run in that profile?

Use Chrome Beta in preference to Chrome Canary if you really have to run a different Chrome.

I found an Avast extension had been enabled and disabled that. Seems to have been working ok for the last few days. Keeping an eye on it an will try a new user profile if I get further problems.... many thanks
