So I have two vaguely related questions

1. Is it worth implementing Vista SP1 if everything seems to be working fine without it?

2. I've never been able to create Recovery Discs for my Compaq V3744AU. It all works fine until I'm actually writing the discs, and then it just seems to get stuck in an endless spin, with the burn of disc one of two never comleting. I had the same issue when trying to create recovery discs for my wife's older V3000 series Compaq.

In light of the fact that I haven't been able to create recovery discs, should I risk applyig SP1? And is there some way around my recovery disc problem?

Windows Vista SP1 makes Windows Vista a bit faster - however it brings some compatibility problems with older drivers. If your laptop is more than one year old I would think before applying SP1. For example, can you download all the required drivers and can you be sure they are compatible?

If not, then wait for Windows Vista SP1 to show up on Windows Update. Microsoft will make drivers available as they are updated and when your laptop is ok then Windows Vista SP1 will show up.

As for the recovery discs, better contact HP and ask for a set if you can't burn them.

There isn't any relation of Vista SP1 with your Recovery Disk or Recovery Partition. As freitasm has told, you need to contact HP/Compaq for that.

Actually is a valid worry. If Windows Vista SP1 fails to install or crashes the laptop he will need the recovery discs handy to reinstall the original system. Looking from an admin point of view his question is very valid and related.
