Seems crazy, but unless my Google fu is failing, I cannot find the official route to upgrade a user from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro unless I buy the full product - is there no upgrade license thats cheaper than the full product ?

Contacted our usual supplier for such things, and hes going on about "dummy licenses" for $100 along with the full priced product etc.......

So is buying the full product for the user and throw it in and it'll just do the upgrade the only official path ? I know theres plenty of "but its free if you do x,y,z" but this is for a business user who wants it done right and no "maybes". :)

TIA

You can simply use the Windows 7 key to activate Windows 10 now.

You can still do it but you do need to backup everything and wipe the computer first, and start with a clean install of Windows 10 Pro, then use your Windows 7 Pro key to activate it.

Don't think an in place upgrade is available as an option, plus a fresh install of a different OS is always better than upgrading.

I had massive issues trying to get my windows 8 pro upgraded to windows 10 pro. It gave me the home version. Had to call MS and force them to upgrade it for me etc.
If you get the same issue just call up.

Amosnz:

Can you still use this to upgrade? https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

Thats a morally questionable way of doing it tho ;)

Anyway, I took the Win 7 Pro OEM installed system back to the office, did a backup, and inserted the Windows 10 CD created with the media creation tool, ran setup from within Windows 7.

And all done, upgraded to Windows 10 Pro - all activated with no prompt for any keys etc.

Yes, absolutely no requirement to clean install.
