Trying to remove duplicate image files etc in my large photos collection, but not having much luck with software out there.... Auslogics was only seeing a tiny fraction of the amount of files I have, DigitalVolcano's offering wasnt much better.......

Any suggestions for preferably free duplicate file sorting software ?

If you find something good, let me know. Ideally one that will merge the meta data on multiple identical photos since the problem I have is many copys of the same image, but some have more metadata because they were copied off with different apps that added it (I think eyefi was one of the things that did that) - image data in them is identical, not even a recompress but would be nice to have something that finds low quality recompresses of higher quality files and nukes them too.

I was looking at that a few days ago as I have a similar problem.
I shortlisted the below to have a look at but haven't tried them yet

Duplicate Files Finder

nirsoft - SearchMyFiles - this one looks promising for my purposes.

auslogics - duplicate file finder

piriform - ccleaner - how to find duplicates

Failing that I do have a retail copy of Photoshop Elements 10 that I was trying to sell which might assist you but I'm not sure of its capabilities
