According to ZDNet Microsoft plans to start rolling out Windows 10 Fall Creators Update October 17th.

Expect this to be one of those long term roll outs, with machines being updated in waves.

Microsoft still has yet to deem the Fall Creators Update as being feature-complete (or, as many of us still prefer to call it, RTM), but does plan to do so in September, hence its 1709 nomenclature. Microsoft also will designate a September build of Windows Server 2016's first feature update (1709) as its "launch" candidate, as the company plans to announce at its Ignite conference in late September. As "launch" and "release" don't always coincide with Microsoft products, Server 1709 also will likely begin rolling out to users in October.

This is a curious update.

Windows ink is getting better, who cares?

Photos app is enhanced, again, who cares?

One drive files on demand????  Why on earth did they even think this was a good idea not to use local storage in parallel.

Game mode ::: maybe this is going to increase gaming performance, but in general I hate how windows is integrating xbox co-functionality.

Windows defender enhanced - -i binned defender for another product, so don't care.

Accessibility - Not applicable to me.

Mixed reality?Buy a headset? Not me. Doesn't even seem to support oculus rift.

Why do they not introduce features that might actually be useful to a larger audience? Such as improving the copy functionality so that copy requests that use the same drive run sequentially rather than in parallel.

Or, allow ethernet connections to be metered!

The Photo App is good and the improvements coming I am looking forward to it is an application I use a lot. Windows Defender I use and some of the accessable features. Windows Ink I use from time to time, my wife uses it a lot.

Will it be a full Windows refresh type install again, like Creators Edition is/was?

i.e. A fresh install of Windows but programs and files etc are transferred over, and you end up with the Windows.old folder.

We are still getting machines in the workshop that are hosed from a failed Creators edition upgrade.

Happy you (and others) will find the changes useful but I think they are mostly outside the scope of what an operating system should provide.

The windows accessibility feature enhancements do not apply to me but I think they are appropriate to include within an OS (as they help you operate the system).

Yes, it will be a full refresh with windows.old. Every windows insider update has been like this. In my case, they have all gone well.

Anyone know what the new version will be??  My wife's laptop did a 2 hour update yesterday to build 15063.  My desktop on the slow preview channel is in 16278..

I wonder if the updates to the Photo app will improve the printing functionality.

I have a large number of clients that use Papercut or Monitor to track printing jobs.  I have found that the way that the Photo's app handles the printing tends to block up the print system with an un-printable file.  Similar issues occur if the default PDF reader is left as MS Edge.

I have resorted to deploying Windows Live Photo viewer to get around the issue and deploying program defaults via GPO to change default PDF reader.
