Do Microsoft still sell a student edition of Windows?

My son is looking at building a PC and wants to stay with Windows.

I haven't been able to find a student/educator version since Windows 10 came out.

There is an Education version of Windows 10 but I have no idea how you go about obtaining it sorry.

It's a different download to the normal Windows 10 media creation tool as well.

Best bet is to ask at the school?

Our school has a ‘basic’ MS subscription for 500 seat licences of EACH OS back to Win7 and we give out office 2016 to our students and staff. They just need to connect to the server every 6 months or so to maintain activation and it all runs smoothly. Works best for laptops or schools with a VPN solution though, as I can’t see someone lugging a desktop in every other term to validate their licence being a feasible option!

My last school had a HUP (home user program) where you could use a school email to validate a $10 purchase of windows or office too... definitely worth asking the School!

Don't know about programme eligibility or licensing but this is supposedly the site where you get it from http://onthehub.com

Yeah, that's Windows 10 S, but it's crippled and restricted to store apps. Previously you could buy Pro for cheap as a student or educator.

Can you source a a cheap W7 or W8.1 licence and do the W10 upgrade via free accessibility upgrade offer? Possibly pushing the boundaries of the offer but hey

The free upgrade from W7 & above is no longer available.

Just sign up for insider preview and go on the slowest upgrade ring.

Not the one we saw in the workshop a couple of weeks ago.
It was basically windows 10 pro without bitlocker I think.
We installed a lot of oftware for them and weren’t restricted to the store apps.

That sounds like what they did with Windows RT. I thought they had stopped doing that sort of thing, especially as the selection of windows apps is terrible compared to Android and iOS. Not sure if google even do apps for it, they don't for the windows 8 store.

Install and activate legit Windows 7. Now go download the media creation tool for Windows 10 - run it. Ta da, you now have legit and full Windows 10.

MS's wording was cunning - that first year, was only for them to push it out to you, after that, you had to initiate it manually. Have done it for many clients and a few at home and no issues.

Peel a old W7 licence key off of *One of your old computers* install it and call MS with that CD Key, let them know you replaced some internal hardware and your HWID has changed, They give you a new activation string of numbers. Activated Genuine Free Windows.
Upgrade to windows 10. Call them back and complain as you had W7 Pro and you got W10 home and want the upgrade from like to like, Get another free key. Done Deal.

since when ?
the free upgrade still is unofficially available. Ive done heaps this year

The other option is to Just install Win10 without a key & use it in unactivated mode : hardly ideal
Otherwise, no real choice. You'll need to buy Win10 home . Its not that expensive

Or buy an old win7 & resort to piracy & use that install key.
