I have a recently unboxed Surface Pro 2, running Win8.

I would like to update it win10.

What would be the best way to do this please?

Fresh install

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, data cabling and general computer support for home and small business.
Rural Broadband RBI installer for Ultimate Broadband and Full Flavour

update to 8.1 then you can upgrade to 10 for free via  below link

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

It does state that offer is extended to 16th January 2018 (was 31st Dec 2017 a couple of days ago) so get in quick just in case the date doesn't roll again

oops, sorry @wade, didnt see your post, will give that a try.

It is 8.1 but is way behind on updates, so getting those out of the way first.

Yep media creation tool and wipe the drive. It should pickup the Win8 key in the bios and activate correctly.
